I don't have dreads, but my hair is 11 to 12.5 inches currently and parts of it are trying to lock on its own..its very thick and is asking to dread...we will see.. Ive washed with only water from august to mid december...but it started to feel nasty regardless of how many times i took a shower. So i grabbed a big ole bowl and dunked my head into the baking soda and did everything like hipforums told me..... Fucking awesome, man my hair feels soo good! I have been washing about every 5 days for the last 4 weeks using this method. Dude...why did i not start doing this 6, 7, 8 years ago?!?!?!?! Thanks to hipforum members for this. Im lovin it dude, i even got a nice complament from a cute girl at the coffee shop that i might persue. SO yea even if you don't have dreads....try this method of washing its fucking awesome...PLus i dont know about the rest of you buts its a way easier drunking your head in a bowl than messing with it in the shower...! Yea...just felt like sharing....awesome!
I used that method for a couple years BEFORE dreads. It was soo much nicer than what shampoo and conditioner did to my hair.
I tried out the BS and ACV method a few months back, and my hair seemed greasy a lot. Now, I've been using just BS with some rosemary essential oil, and it works great!! I may start conditioning with ACV once my dreads lock up, but for now I'll just stick to BS. I do shampoo my bangs though, but I'll probably start weaning them from that. (I use all natural vegan shampoo). It's so cheap and natural to just use this stuff!!
Right now im not sure. Before i cut my hair the last time it was starting to lock on itself and that was when i was using over the counter shampoo. Its length was 14 to 16 inches! I can't believe i let it grow to that length. I have a feeling that it will lock on its own more and more regardless. Only thing is that i hvae it tied back 80% of the time which does slow down the locking a little.... We will see. Id like to get it backcombed later, but i will probably wait tell im out of my current living situation. I would love to have dreads someday tho...my hair is perfect for doing it...
Word. That's basically how mine started. Hair grew super long, knots would form by the end of the day. Decided to backcomb 1 outta curiosity. Which led to a few more. Which led to a "ima just let my hair lock on it's own." If I could back I woulda just let all of it lock up on it's own instead of backcombing those few. I like the idea of your hair natually sectioning itself, but whatever it's just hurrr.
