I am constantly on facebook when I should be studying. Before I do anything in the morning I just go online for about half an hour to check up on various websites, emails, facebook, amazon and others that i have joined, this included. Do you ever just want to live without internet? For me it is a brilliant tool to get information from my university, emails and to research info for my course. Sometimes though I wish I could just live without it... I deleted facebook for 3 months and was fine until I found that I was missing out on facebook events and info from university. Anyone else feel like this? I live without a phone...
As a human race, we have evolved some pretty complex systems and grids and whatnot. We're pretty smart. Only, we didn't leave any of the grounded infrastructure together. we're fucking stupid.. There's no going back if the power goes out.. we're going ALL the way back if that happens..
There will be the day when internet is finished, only thing that will stay preserved of our civilisation for some thousand years will be stuff craved in granite gravestones and stuff like that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_Guidestones
I live most of my days without internet lately...I've just been so busy, I don't get a chance to go online. I think I can easily live without it, however, I love the variety of information it offers and things I can learn from a simple internet search.
The internet is full of useful information not available to all by any other means. It also allows like minded people to connect. Id be completly isolated without it..TV on the other hand...I wouldnt miss it..
CHANGE ALL YOUR FACEBOOK ACCT INFO TO BOGUS DATA AND LEAVE THE SITE! (While your life is STILL YOURS!)
Could I live without the internet, on a social basis, yes. Would I want to, no. It is a really wonderful tool for connecting with people and ideals that would be very difficult to do without the ease of the net. The ability to research and find what you are looking for with a search engine would be something that I also would miss. My professional objectives and ease of earning an income are also something I would have to change and would not be willing to. Could I disconnect, sure. Would I want to, no.
would be inconvenient if we lost it but theres books for information, fones and letters for connecting with ppls, no sweat.
Books for information? Heck, I like books as much as the next guy, but if you want to find out something about, say, hummingbirds, as an example. Lets say you only want to know the diet of the bird, nothing more... Internet: Take out your phone/PC/Laptop, and google "hummingbird diet", and up pops a ton of stuff about the diet of hummingbirds. Alternatively you can visit wikipedia and type in "hummingbird" and get a fairly compact article about hummingbirds, easily finding the bit of information you need. Total time needed: 5 minutes or less, not to mention, it is easy to copy the text if you need it. No internet: You drive to the library, and you have to look through a ton of books to find one about hummingbirds, or take an encyclopedia and search through it to find the section on hummingbirds. You have to scan through a whole mess of text, and hopefully find the section on their diet. Total time needed: 15-30 minutes, plus the time it took you to get there. Plus, it is really inconvenient, and copying the text is a mission. Sure, it is not like it is the end of the world or anything, it is just that the internet makes it much easier to find information. Also, if you need an image or any other kind of media file, the internet is unlike anything that has ever existed. The internet is most commonly used for fairly pointless stuff, but it's potential is immeasurable as a research and connectivity tool.
^ agree. I use the internet on a daily basis to find information on all sorts of things, and before the internet i would just open an encyclopedia. It's just much easier now that i can do it online from my home. i find it funny how people refer to the internet as if it were a parallel universe. It's only a communication medium.
