Why do people buy tinned soups, which are always LOADED with MSG and salt and stuff, when soup is SO easy to make for yourself?? I've just made myself a vegetable broth which is absolutely YUMMY ... and no trouble at all. Not to mention a whole lot sheaper than buying it in a tin ... :daisy:
Convenience, laziness, think they cant cook, like the taste of aluminum mixed with various chemicals masquerading as food.
For convenience? I buy Campbell's chicken noodle soup, for those days when I'm sick and am too ill to cook and I buy lipton powdered soup for my lumberjack because that's what he eats when he's hung over, but we always buy the low sodium kind. Aside from that, I always make my own soup. Only, I enjoy using chicken broth that come in boxes for that. I have all kinds of bouillon, chicken, beef, veggie, that I use to make soups. I've tried to make home-made vegetable broth, in a crock-pot, but it didn't turn out so well. What is your recipe??
I save and freeze all the left over cooked veg and then when I'm short on time or money I can make a pot of soup that generally does for a main course along with big chunks of freshly baked bread!
Not all tinned soup are as bad as you seem to believe. For example, there is Amy's brand in the USA http://www.amys.com/products/product-categories/soups
people used to buy canned soups because they were cheap, and didn't require culinary genius to prepare. the days in which they were cheap enough for this to be practical are now long since ancient history. powdered bullions, and pasta's of almost all kinds, are now a LOT cheaper, and still don't take any more mental capacity then enough to boil water. i'm not social enough to have a good handle on what other people do, but i'm almost certain not nearly as many buy canned soups now, as did when i was growing up.
Steps to making soup: 1) Get a pot. 2) Fill it with water, add seasonings to make it broth 3) Throw random produce into it 4) Heat THAT'S. ALL. People ask me how I make such good soup... You just literally throw food into a bucket with water. It's that simple.
Convenience (just pour contents into microwavable bowl and set on high for 4 minutes) Campbell’s Chunky Soups: Beef Rib Roast, Roasted Chicken, Beef and country vegetables, Beef with white rice, Grilled Sirloin Steak with hearty vegetables, or Beef Noodle soup :2thumbsup: Hotwater
I'm not much of a soup eater, but when I do I'm sick. Then it's faithful chicken noodle cup a soup or liptons little chicken noodle I call it. Now I have made my own stocks before turkey soup, beef stock etc. I think really hoo said it best as why people go tinned Open heat Eat
I have another reason for not wanting to make my own soup... I absolutely love cooking, but i prefer cooking elaborate stuff, imo making soup is incredibly boring. i mean : it's all chores and no play. visual evidence : ^ fun AND yummy ^ boring (although yeah, it can be yummy)
