Is anyone on here good with computers?
I'm trying to install windows 7 onto my computer, but every time I do it after it goes through the installation page it comes up with a black screen and does nothing, at first I thought this was normal so I left it for well over an hour and nothing changed.. so I restarted the computer and I had to start the installation again only for this to happen a second time..

It's really bugging me, I don't know what to do..
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
    Peace!

Are you sure the system is compatible? Sounds like Win7 isn't finding a proper video driver or is using the wrong one. What kind of system is is?

Yeah, I'm sure it should work, I've checked the specs I need and they're all in order.
I realised you couldn't upgrade directly from XP to 7 so I had to choose custom installation, which meant I had to reformat the hard drive.. I did everything in order that I read on the Microsoft website but still no luck :/

Is there more than one video port? Maybe it's using a different one if there is.... Like onboard (motherboard) instead of the video card, or second port on the card, something like that.

Is this a desktop or laptop/notebook

Win7 is weird, I run it and XP on several different machines and both are okay, but 7 is just weird.

Apparently this black screen thing is a common issue, however all my lurking has only found other problems involving a black screen and not mine directly..

I'm trying to get it onto a desktop.

Okay, so it's a desktop.... are there other video ports? Have you tried them? You may even need an adapter...... Yeah the "black screen" is rather common with Win7. It's weird I tell you......

There might be a conflict with your video card, which may be too old for any drivers to be installed from Win7.

You might have a bad boot disk . I dont know if this is one you bought , or downloaded and burned your self . Some times when I burn my own disk something does not copy rite . I like the cdrw and dvdrw disks , you can re use them if something screws up . Or you might make the switch to one of Linux distros http://distrowatch.com/ Ubuntu is a good place to start http://www.ubuntu.com/ Most distros of Linux will boot as a live cd , not installed on the hard drive . That way you can see if it works with your hard ware . desert rat

I've not seen or experienced the issue. My best guess would be what Tyrson is saying, maybe a second video port you used as a primary with XP, and 7 is switching to another one. Also, how far into the boot process does it get? Do you ever even see the Win 7 loading screen? Try booting into safe mode if at all possible.
