im doing a research paper for psychology and i need some answers to get info for my paper. 1. Have you ever used drugs?? (Ex:marijuana, cocaine, valium,LSD etc) Why did you use them? Was peer pressure or "fitting in" a factor? What age did you first try it? 2.Have you ever consumed alcohol?? What age? And if you were a minor how did u get it? 3. Have you ever used tobacco products? If you were under the age of 18 how did you get it? 4.Do you believe D.A.R.E and such programs actually work? Any other opinions or comments please feel free to add. Thank you so much for your time.
I'll take 'the bait' since I am rather bored: 1. Have you ever used drugs?? (Ex:marijuana, cocaine, valium,LSD etc) Yes. I have used many psychoactive compounds but mainly legally because I am prescribed them. Recreationally, however, I have done many drugs still including psychedelics, opioids from Morphine to OxyContin, stimulants like amphetamine, and Cannabis. Why did you use them? The only reason I take drugs is because they allow me to suffer less in my existence. I have Schizoaffective Bipolar Disorder and drugs, both legal and otherwise, keep me from suicide. Was peer pressure or "fitting in" a factor? Never. Not even once. I keep my drug use hidden from all but a select few friends. What age did you first try it? I have been prescribed psychoactive drugs since I was around 8 years old and first tried illicit drugs around 16. 2.Have you ever consumed alcohol?? Yes. I regularly drank from age 18-22 but no longer do. What age? I first drank on a trip to France at age 15. And if you were a minor how did u get it? My friends all had older siblings who would buy us booze. 3. Have you ever used tobacco products? A handful of times I have done dipping tobacco (and hated it) and I have smoked a grand total of one pack's worth of cigarettes my entire life. If you were under the age of 18 how did you get it? I first had tobacco around age 20. 4.Do you believe D.A.R.E and such programs actually work? For some intellectually weak people these programs are effective in scaring people and also in teaching them exaggerated claims about drugs. For most people, they are nothing but a joke. Any other opinions or comments please feel free to add. Thank you so much for your time. I would like to say that if it were not for my severe mental illness, I would likely have never taken any sort of drug in my life. Perhaps I see myself having tried alcohol socially or smoking Cannabis once or twice, but I can assure you 100% that if it wasn't for the severity of my illness, I would have never encountered things like amphetamine and Morphine!
Do they work to prevent drug use? hell no.......they work great for spreading false information about drugs in an attempt to scare kids away from ever trying drugs. So yeah I don't exactly think those programs help anything..a better approach would be accurate information about drugs, what the risks of various drugs are and that sort of information so if someone is going to use drugs they have some knowledge about what they are getting them self into.
