Newest addition to the medicine cabinet. Basically Vicodin minus the Tylenol x 10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ua1hJqH6yvs"]kjnkln
I am glad they are finally making this drug for people who do better with Hydrocodone than with Oxycodone. It is a shame that folks are basically 'forced' into either OxyContin or MS Contin (or Kadian, etc. [oral extended release morphine sulfate]). Good to hear that this medicine will probably exist in the next year or two!
I like the idea of keeping the acetominophen out of it. I have a couple questions, though. Will this change the legal status of Hydrocodone from Schedule III to Schedule II? And will that make doctors more reluctant to prescribe it? On one hand it offers a reduced chance of harm with long-term use, but on the other hand it could increase the abuse potential of the drug.
It will be Schedule II. Hydrocodone Bitartrate (or similar salt) by itself is a Schedule II drug. It is only when compounded with a "therapeutically significant" amount of an additional non-narcotic analgesic, is the resulting compound (Vicodin, Norco, Lortab, Vicoprofin, etc.) Schedule III. I believe the general limit on the compound's upper strength is 15 mg of Hydrocodone + 150 mg of Acetominophen. Some compounding pharmacies will prepare this custom order and it is still considered Schedule III. However, a single-entity product will automatically be C-II.
Wow cool, I've always wondered why there wasn't a high dose hydro product out there with no ace. You think they will use a crush proof formula just like the new OPs? Either way I hope I can come across one some day.
I still have yet to hear about this, but I am not very excited, as Oxycodone kills Hydrocodone in every aspect, IMO. Any news on this actually being prescribed? I am in PM and my pain doc usually keeps me up to date on everything, and he hasn't mentioned anything about this. If I ask, with my luck, he will put me on it if it's out, lollllll.
I think the reason this is taking so long to come out or is hard to get prescribed is because it finally made Hydrocodone a CII. Before, Hydrocodone was prescribed for lots of things, even simple dentist procedures. Now that they have made a CII Hydrocodone only product, it's not going to be the easiest to get, because most places that prescribe Hydro prescribe it because it's CIII and doesn't have the stigma that Oxycodone has.
Thats a good point, but didnt they stop making Vicodin because Zohydro came out. I thought Zohydro was the solution to the acetaminophen problem.
You would think, since Acet is a fucking horrible substance...but those docs that wanna stay low key are going to want to prescribe the CIII version of it just because of the stigma. And as far as I know, they did NOT stop making Vicodin, yet anyways...
