Help! The skin on my face is so dry that I get major flakiness! I feel so frustrated because I've tried all kinds of face washes, lotions, scrubs, masks, everything! I've tried washing my face just at night, just in the morning, neither and both! I've tried not washing my face unless I take a shower and I've tried only washing with water and using no lotion on my face. I've seen a doctor about it and she recommended Cetaphil cleansing stuff and Eucerin face cream. The Cetaphil seems to work okay, but the Eucerin just makes my face greasy and I still have flakes on top of the grease. Help! Does anyone have any ideas? Any good products to try? Any natural aids? I would really appreciate any input you ladies might have for me.
Just continue washing it and stuff once of twice a day and get a really good moisturiser and put more than usual on... it should go away in a couple of days... that works for me anyway... how long had it been like that??
I have the same problem during the winter. I use Ponds Dry Skin Cream at night. I slater it on, and massage my face every night before I go to bed. It feels kind of gressy at first, but within about mins or so it soaks in and feels fine.
I can't say that my diet is ideal, but I'm a healthy girl overall. I tend to not eat breakfast as often as I should, but I eat lunch and dinner pretty regularly. Usually a salad or pizza rolls for lunch. Chicken and a veggie for dinner sometimes. Grilled cheese sandwiches are a staple too. I could use a little more protein, but I'm working on it. I drink lots of water and I get some exercise. I don't eat fruit very often just because we have crappy produce here. Would adding some fruitiness to my diet help? It's not a temporary problem at all. This has been a three year long struggle, although it definitely does get much worse in the winter.
you could try a moisturizing lotion that isn't greasy... personally I really like Lubriderm for dry skin (my hands get so dry in winter that they crack and bleed without my precious lotion). Don't put it on too often, or too heavily... maybe a 5 times a day max? Why aren't you still using the Cetaphil stuff your doc recommended? Just curious.
Well, the Cetaphil doesn't make my skin any MORE dry than it normally is. But I try other products to make my skin less dry. When they don't work or make my skin even more dry, I go back to the Cetaphil. That seems to be the best for not making my skin itchy like it gets when it's at its dryest. I feel like such a big nerd for spilling all this info about my skin care habits. hehehe. Anyway, I appreciate the feedback from you all. I'm going to try some of your suggestions. Especially the fish; I never eat fish. Thanks Ladies!
When winter comes around I use a facial skin exfoliant (such as St. Ives Apricot Invigorating scrub). It is mild enough to use daily and also comes in both a sensitive skin and medicated form. I also like to use a heavy cream-based moisturizer at night.
I have combination skin... Both oily and dry, with flakiness on my cheeks... I've found that it helps to wash my face with a washcloth, to exfoliate. And apply a moisturizer (Jergen's Ultra Healing).
maybe youve got exezema on your face? ive got it on my arms and its spread onto my head and face. its made certain spots on my face really dry and flaky. maybe go to the derma and get a persecription...ive been meaning to go, and will as soon as i got the time
y'know, i was thinking about this today, and wondering if it might be some kind of dandruffy fungal thing.
My face gets really flaky, too, especially in the winter. I use this stuff called Aquaphor. My mom is an RN, she gets it from her hospital. I think you can probably find it at a drugstore. Aquaphor works wonders for me, it is kind of greasy but that doesn't seem to affect my skin. I dunno, worth looking for.
Someone made a post about cetaphil.. that made my face SO greasy! i used the moisterizer and i know i spelled it wrong
I finally solved my flaky, irritated, dry skin problem with the help of drinking lots of water everyday and using 100% pure jojoba oil on my face as a moisturizer. I can't describe how much I love this stuff. Adding a few drops of extra virgin olive oil along with the jojoba will give you an even richer moisturization. Neither oils clog pores. In fact, another reason I started using jojoba oil was because i heard it helped acne....and it totally did. For gentle exfoliation, I'd ignore the facial scrubs at the store--even the 'gentle' formulas can still contain harsh ingredients. You'd be better off with mixing a bit of white sugar or baking soda with your cleanser as you're washing you're face. Exfoliate a couple times a week and use the jojoba/olive oil mixture liberally and you're skin should improve, unless it isn't just dry skin. Good luck. edit: Oh! I totally forgot about 100% aloe vera gel! As a moisturizing 'mask' i slather a bunch of the gel onto my face and just let it sit for however long i want. If you store it in the fridge to keep it cold it will feel SO good and soothing when you put it on.
How about stop messing with your face. the chemicals in face washes are abrasive to your natural skin and oils.
Cut a slice of a cucumber and whipe the cool cucumber over all of yoru face. It feels so wonderful and is good for your skin. also oatmeal is really good for your skin. avino has some really nice things for the skin all oatmeal based.
I find that things made for babies are great for the skin just check out the baby section of your store and get something from there...
