Please remember that when daylight savings time comes back,( is it still April 1st? ) we will all be on the road an hour earlier and the animals will be caught be suprise. Drive carefully.
I hit a dog one night in some grubby little town north of Fresno. Big black dog,it was ,and it just appeared out of nowhere and was hit before I could even lift my foot to hit the brakes. I walked around to the houses in the neighborhood to try and find the owner ,but no luck so I put it out of the road. Another little one ran under my trailer crossing the road to get to another dog. Killed it outright. Owner was right there--I felt really bad about it. I see mostly cats hit and it really bothers me.
Yeah...It bothers me greatly too. I live in the mountains of California (very rural) and I've hit animals twice. First time was a bat believe it or not....that really bothered me. I like bats.
I was driving behind a car that hit a wild goose in the road, and he just drove away! my friends and i stopped, it had a broken wing, we took it to a wildlife rehabilitation center at 1:30 in the morning. this awesome guy took the goose away from us in a cat carrier. We went back 3 months later, and found out that the bird made a full recovery, and was living happily on the reserve. It really made my day. I was so glad we helped the poor creature. It would have died from shock on the side of the road if we hadn't!
ok: hope no one hates me for this but.. if it was a possum dont feel too bad, they are real dumb animals, as for avoiding it, you probly couldve made all the noise in the world, and it still wouldve kept going. like i said they are dumb. yeah you should try to stop and not hit it, it's better for everyone that way. so i will tell you a story about me. one day i was riding my bike to the store late at night. as i was riding down the road there came a possum crossing the street, and i started to make noise cuz i was going to run over it. well it kept going, and i was approaching a tree on my side of the road. i was now in the even horizon stage, and to avoid the tree branches i couldnt get over all the way, and i made all the noise i could, and that dumb thing kept walking. so i lift up my legs, and its nose went into the back spokes of my bike and i hear #brrruupp# and i looked back, and that possum was just standing there in the road like "WTF WAS THAT SHIT!" if i can run over them on a bike, man c'mon now
Once my boyfriend and I were driving down the highway and saw a turtle trying to cross, so he decided to turn around and go back and get him (even though I thought he was crazy, yes, poor turtle, but for God's sake, the speed limit was 70) and as we were approaching him, a truck came speeding by and hit him. It was the single SADDEST thing I have ever watched with my own two eyes. That poor turtle didn't have a chance. At least we tried, and thank god it was the turtle and not Dan who became road pizza that day.
Yes. I swerve to avoid squirrels and even slow down to a dead stop and honk at the little bastards to get out of the way so they dont get hit! Haha i guess im just a little weird though haha i dont know anyone else who does that
thats fucking awesome! Sounds like something i would have done haha. Nice to know there are others with kind hearts out there. The animals need us
one time i passed a turtle crossing the road, and i turned around to go put it in the woods and just as i was getting up to it this other car hit it.
Totally. Over hitting anything at all. Once it was storming out and I could barely see but was just down the road from my house and I swear I hit some frogs. DAMMIT!
one day back when i was a kid I remember finding a turtle and i picked him up and stuck him in my water bottle holder (was a nice chrome BMX i got for a birthday)...i gave that guy rides all day long then dropped him off at a different swamp when my mom wouldnt let me keep him :mickey: I hit a dog once with my moms car about 18 years ago...it survived no problem
I think my case was saying "It's pretty fucking stupid to try to save a turtle on a highway with a 70 MPH speed limit." lol
