Are you sure there's no "how to's" on YouTube? Seems like they have just about everything. Other than that just jam to some recordings... if you already know theory it won't take long to pick it up.

Best thing, of course, is to find some players and jam.... Seems Bluegrass is a friendly vibe and they shouldn't mind a beginner that already knows some stuff.

Major scale and major pentatonic are great places to start. It's a really rhythmic style. Perhaps get out the ol metronome... What instrument do you play? I'm a guitar player, but I recently added a banjo to my arsenal. Mostly I've learned some old time clawhammer stuff, Cripple Creek and the like. And some picking roll patterns, Scruggs roll etc. I really love bluegrass and old time. But guitar takes up most of my time and I don't play my banjo as much as I'd like to.

Jamming is the best way to learn. I play Mandolin, and for a long time i just learned through stuff online, and self-teaching... Then i started jamming (And thats mostly what i do now) Just playing with others helps out a lot.

With bluegrass you need strumming technique..and finger picking...if this is your natural style then you should be just fine..if not then the books are the best..some come with cd...its been a long time...
