Unless a new candidate steps up Obama has a nearly guaranteed victory at this point. It almost seems like the other candidates are trying to lose and I'm not even talking about what they've done in the past or what they say. I'm talking about how the Obama family just SATURATES the media while Gingrich, Romney, and others remain mostly aloof. I just saw the fucking first lady in a push-up contest with Ellen Degeneres FFS. It was EXACTLY the same for the 2008 elections. Obama and his wife got on every talk show on tv they could and relentlessly pounded themselves into the general publics thoughts and discourse. I am not stupid enough to believe that Gingrich and Romneys respective camps haven't thought of this. In comparison to Obama, it's like they aren't even trying. It just makes me further stalwart in my belief that it's all bullshit. I leave you with some words of wisdom from the late, great, Mr. George Carlin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SC_wjQtfhZQ"]George Carlin: The Illusion Of Choice - YouTube ^^^ p.s. Yes, ALL politicians are included in this. Even your precious RP.
I disagree. With the huge number of GOP "debates", these candidates have gotten way more media exposure than Obama. The Republicans will lose the election because they have gone so far to the right that they no longer represent enough Americans. Their policies suck.
I'm willing to bet more people watch all the different talk shows than the debates. Obama is even going after youth votes by appealing to youtube and respecting it as a genuine platform for garnering votes.
I don't even own a TV so can't comment on exposure in the media. But seriously, as Carlin says it's all an illusion anyways. If the Republicans really wanted to win don't you think they would have chosen someone that was real? Or do they feel that Obama has already beat himself anyways and no matter who the repubs put up it's a shoe in for them..... (there is a lot of that sentiment going around in these parts)
Neither. The basic problem is that the GOP has become a bunch of fundamentalists who are detached from reality. They will not compromise, they reject science and reason whenever it conflicts with profits or the Bible. They think they are doing the right thing, but to the rest of us, it seems crazy.
The folks who think Obama has already beaten himself will have a rough time of it the morning of Nov. 5th. While I do not underestimate the stupidity of the American voter, Romneys Gorden Gekko greed is good past isnt going to go over very well this year. Not to mention that most ultra conservative christian types hate him as much as they do Obama.
Everything George Carlin stated is valid - good video to showcase what our "Government" has become. However, TyroneBiggums - the statement you added as an afterthought, I guess; where you said, "even your precious RP" - is sadly inaccurate. Ron Paul is the only candidate who has a thirty-year history of integritous behavior. He has always voted against raising income tax, or any tax of any kind, for that matter. I guess you're not aware of what he stands for, but if we all don't support him, this country is completely through. He is the only candidate who has done; as a congressman for 30 years; and who will do, as our President, what the leader of our country is supposed to do for it's citizens: protect our liberties. He had to register as a Republican this time because in 2008, when he ran in the Primaries as an independent, they excluded him out of all the debates on the premise that he was not registered as a Republican or a Democrat! This new S1867 that Obama didn't veto like he said he would will be our complete undoing, if Ron Paul is not elected to run our country. Ron Paul (senator for Texas); his son, Rand Paul (senator for Kentucky); and one or two other senators were the ONLY senators that voted against S1867 - doesn't that tell you something? Ron Paul is completely opposed to what he refers to as, "meddling in the affairs of other countries", and part of his stated plan for economic recovery for America is to immediately bring ALL troops home. Do you know we spend $4 Billion/per month just on keeping the troops overseas - with no added security whatsoever for us. Four-Billion dollars per month!! He is the only candidate who has clearly stated a viable plan for economic recovery - the other ones just make vague statements "that they'll improve it". Romney, who is in the process of remodeling one of his 3 multi-million dollar homes (the $25-million one) is so out of touch with the average American's dilemma, that he will surely be our undoing; because you know what his main reason is for wanting to become the President? "I want to win!" he said. Ain't that a noble reason? Yeah - he's got all the money he could ever need or want - now he wants to be the President of the United States, like it's some friggin' dream he had when he was a kid: "I wanna be the President when I grow up." And, people are voting for the miscreant! Gingrich .... well, all you gotta do is take one look at his face, and those shady, shifty eyes - and that'll tell you where his head is at. Just go to Ron Paul's official website and check out some of the videos about him, and see the kind of people who wholeheartedly endorse him and what he stands for - and after you spend some time there checking him out, if you can come back here and can say you think you won't support him, then there is unarguably something wrong with the way you think. I'm an old-timer, and I have never involved myself in politics before because I never saw a politician I could believe in - now I do. Please - for the benefit of us all - check him out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Quotes by Ron Paul: "The purpose of the Government is to protect the personal liberty of it's citizens - not to run their personal lives, not to run the economy, and not to think that we can the the world how they ought to live." "I am convinced the best formula for preserving the American way of life and giving us all peace, is Freedom, Limited Government, & Minding our own business overseas." "I am absolutely opposed to a National ID card that our current government wants. This is a total contradiction of what a Free Society is all about. The purpose of the American Government is to protect the privacy of all individuals; not to protect the secrecy of Government. We don't need a National ID Card."
Hey i'm closer to him in ideals than any of the candidates (even supported him for a while) but now i believe he is potentially more dangerous for our nation than any of them. Am I going to get into a debate about it here? No, I'm not.
@ OneOfTheDifference... Not bashing Ron Paul, but you put too much faith in the power of the office of the President. They really can't do everything they want to or say they will do, especially if it's going to step on anyone's toes ( "anyone" being the corporations that are actually pulling the strings)
Sorry but we have been up and down the whole Ron Paul thing in a different thread. I would not support him due to environmental issues, but look up the "Would you vote for Ron Paul" thread for peoples pros and cons if you wish.
The paulist is in the building! Elections are just a big game of musical chairs on the titanic. America is sinking real fast, if you still believe a president can institute change then your oblivious to how the real world works. Politics exclude the people and perpetuate the belief of a coming happy ending when in reality (due to climate change, population increase, and the overall totalitarian agriculture which by we live by -- including the finite oil dependencies) were going to reach a climax. From there the future is unclear, but "our" culture will die in the next 50 years. Humanity on the other hand will start a new chapter from its death
Ok this is not new – for many years (from at least the first Red Scare) the political establishment of both the major parties systematically tried to purge the US of left wing influences with the assistance and often at the behest of US businesses interests. The anti-communist drive (that confused all left wing ideas with communism) led to the military/industrial complex which morphed into the financial/corporate state. What this has led to is a US dominated by the interests of wealth. The question I’d ask is what is to be done about this solution. I ask this because there are many people in the US that think the solution is to give even more power to wealth. Obama is in, no contenders for the catbird seat. Romney is obviously full of shit and Gingrich is like a senile, pathological liar who won't be nominated anyway. Lots of people will vote against Romney by voting for Obama. He's the Devil we already know, and he ain't as bad as another Bush-clone would be. If voting meant anything serious it would be illegal, by the way.
what shows would you like to see Newt and Mitt on exactly?... Newt Gingrich on the next Biggest Loser!.. maybe The Wendy Williams Show... then he can talk about how mexicans and blacks are just lazy people.. he can show them how to work... Or Mitt Romney on Jerry Springer.. or maybe The Peoples Court Rick Santorum on To Catch A Predator? Ron Paul on Antique Road Show? American Pickers?
