Just because you smoke weed, doesn`t mean you`re a hippy.

Being a hippy is about being open minded & loving everyone. Looking into a spiritual light & expressing love throughout our being. I`m tired of seeing people call themselves hippies because of the way they dress or because of the drugs they do. Without the correct state of mind & the truth in your heart, you`re just a yuppy in disquise. I want to see TRUE hippies. This generation is impossible, & I wish that there were more kids like me that were raised by hippies & know the truth in the world beyond the "style". There's a girl in one of my history classes who wears hippie-style clothing, raves about the Beatles, and smokes weed. It's made me think about what makes a "hippie".
Would she stand up for a protest? Would she go against the norm if it meant being ridiculed? I don't know...

I have an aunt and uncle who are a bit hippy-dippy. They're into the environment, nature, health, social causes. They've had a huge impact on me...

Sounds like America as a whole. Most of America`s reasoning for why 911 happened was because we`re so "prosperous & free". Really? No, because we keep attacking innocent people for something that isn`t ours. I want to protest for the things that matter. There are more protests out there that are very legit. The one in washing is just one of them. You don`t have to protest, some people just choose to do what they feel is right & what is helping the world. I want to take a walk in John Lennon`s shoes & know I can make a change just like him. Rather he was a Beatle or not, that wasn`t the point. He could`ve still make a HUGE difference if he were like one of us. -sorry this is going off topic, but I`ve a lot to say when it comes to this stuff. :daisy:

We don't keep attacking innocent people for no reason.. there is a reason for everything whether it is good or bad.. The french didn't have a good reason to attack italy in the 15th century, but they did anyway, for example

Why do people always want to define "hippie" and exclude people?

You know what I think?

Teenagers that smoke weed and wear tiedye, and gun-slinging rednecks, and bible-thumping right-wingers, and ANYBODY who wants to can call themselves a "HIPPY" is free to do so.

Who cares? They're not ruining it for the rest of us.

We can't all be "model hippies" we're just people.

So true, but some of us weren't blessed with the luxury of a hippie upbringing. I do agree with you, there's more to the lifestyle than superficial details.

 

I might be wrong, but I think the OP's point is there are some that think just because they smoke weed, they are a "hippie" and they will kick your ass if you say different.....

 

The Beatles made music, but speaking for John Lennon; he actually protested & stood for something. You`re right, things have meaning & power because we make it that way; but yeah. I think America & war is just bullshit as of now. Sorry, but there is no excuse for any of the shit that these politians feed into our minds. I`m just not buying it.

Not saying I'm super patriotic, and if I were given a better opportunity somewhere else I'd hop on it faster than stink on shit.. but you're 17 now, so close to 18 and at that point nothing is keeping you back.. I can't even tell you how much america sucks compared to other places in the world.. especially for women.. like sudan, iran, colombia, move to cuba or venezuela and tell their government how much their countries are 'just bullshit as of now'.

And you don't have to buy into anything, and yes you have your right to voice that, but please please please we all have the right to common sense and it is common sense that the 'higher ups' will do whatever they want with whatever resources are at their disposal because they want to, and because they can, and they will despite opposition, many of them up until the time of their death, however violent that may be, I'd say ask ghadaffi, but I'm not so sure that would be the easiest of tasks

 

Nope, you`re correct. Actually speaking of which, there was this girl at a party that I was at the other night ago & she was talking about war & airforce & how she was all for war & stuff, yet she was wearing tie-dye, & smoking a joint with all of us. After talking about war she interrupts my point of view just to say, "Oh, & btw guys I`m not a hipster, I`m a hippy!". I just kind of sat there & thought; conformity & war are what hippies were against, yet you are saying you agree with everything the government is doing? She became a walking contradiction at that very moment. She`s one of the reasons why I posted this. Most of the popular kids at my school claim to be hippies, but they treat everyone like dirt (including me when I get invited to those parties). It seems it`s only but a style & I wish people would realize that there is much more to being a hippy than the "cool" things about it. Not many of those kids in my high school would actually go out & protest & risk their lives for their beliefs. No, they`d just sit around & smoke weed & day dream about how they "would" do that, but never actually go out & do it. That is all I`m saying & I`m glad that someone understood what I was trying to make out of this post without any harsh comments. Thank you. :daisy:
