The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. I remember it well. I was young, but I watched it with a friend who was a couple of years older and already was a fan just from 45's he'd picked up. Something, everything, was different after that show. I didn't suspect it was an early step on a path I'm still on. Maybe others could share what significance the event had, the stories will be interesting.
Yes, I watched some of it. We weren't actually allowed to watch stuff like that, but my father wanted to watch it himself. We watched only the first part and were then sent to bed. I remember lying in bed listening to the second part of the set. We weren't allowed to be Beatle fans because my parents thought they were rebellious and risky. Imagine how it went down when I decided that I like the Stones better anyway!
I remember seeing it, my sisters were into it more with them being older. Later on I always found the Beatles to be way to Pop for my tastes and I got into the Psychedelic thing.
I lost my allowance for a month for purchasing the first Beatles album. We always did watch the Ed Sullivan show. Did see the Beatles. I just did not get all the screaming girls. I wanted to hear the music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoZ18rO1Rj0&feature=related"]Beatles - 1st Presentation with Ed Sullivan show - YouTube
Saw that show, it was live TV remember and Ed Sullivan was it. If you made Sullivan you went national on the most watched show in America. At that time I thought the Beatles were okay but was more into Eric Burdon and the Yardbirds, stuff like that. The Beatles were more of a girlie band at the time, until Rubber Soul anyway. I also remember seeing Elvis on Sullivan, they wouldn't show his hips and we were told not to look at them by the nuns that were floating around in those days.
