In the end, what matters most is, how well you lived, how well you loved, and how well you learned to let go. ^^ is probably the most intelligent quote I have ever heard. Because life in total is about enjoying it. And if you don't enjoy it, then there is no point in living, because truly no one individual matters. It's always probable that your great great great grandchildren won't remember you, and they don't matter either if you think about it. So that just further proves that living well is what life is about, and living well has no standards, other than your own standards, so if you have a choice to go smoke pot, in a park instead of being president and making people happy, that's fine. I just don't understand why some older people don't get this. You wouldn't believe how many times I hear the word "bum" or "loser" go around when the people who get called those words don't feel that way at all. So basically what I'm saying is, isn't it better to live by your own standards, rather than the governments, your families, in total, if you think it's positively benefiting you?
Living well is a good thing. I don't agree that there are no standards for living well. Given that this is a Buddhist forum, it is only fair to point out that the Noble Eightfold Path is a pretty good standard for living well.
