Has anyone ever been out there? What's the community like? I'm trying to hitch over there, if anyone is interested in venturing out there with me? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMLBfi4iYRU&feature=related"]This is Slab City - YouTube
This place is in one of my favourite films ever....Into The Wild https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4bW2YKNQkY"]Into the Wild- My favorite part- Slab City.avi - YouTube
Ugh, I hate that movie. Not because it was a bad movie, it was actually pretty good. But I knew somebody who was totally obsessed with it. She thought that kid was the greatest person to ever live, he did something totally original, and he should be worshipped like a god. I've known lots of people who have made their lives in the wilderness, even I've done similar stuff, and I'm about to move out into the woods with way less than what he had, not for a vacation, but to live. The only reason this kid had a movie made about his trip was because his parents were loaded. That being said, it was a good movie, and I do respect what he did. He was pretty cool. So, really this post had no point...
I hope to one day at least visit Slab City. No clue as to what its like other than what I have seen on videos and read about it from other peoples experiences there. Into the Wild is one of my favorite movies, I don't deify the Supertramp, I like the soundtrack for it, Some great songs there.
You should check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzSQvamSfa4"]American Nomads. It's a movie-length program from the BBC about the travelling subculture of the southwest. Slab City is one of the places they visit.
