Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Movie Blurb by Shale February 11, 2012 This is a sequel to the 2008 movie Journey to the Center of the Earth and is also in 3-D but as before, I saw the movie in 2-D. It continues with the premise that Jules Verne's stories are based in reality and not just the fiction that everyone assumes. Sean (Josh Hutcherson) is now an older teen and a bit of a punk. After the cops catch him on a motorcycle chase, he is taken home by his stepfather Hank (Dwayne Johnson). Sean particularly has attitude about his stepfather but that starts to soften when Hank with his Navy experience helps Sean decipher a coded message that he picked up from satellite and believes it is from his missing grandfather Hank & Sean Ready for Adventure Following other clues in the message they discover a connection of several 19th Century books involving Islands and piece together a map with coordinates in the Pacific near Palau. Sean, who's already been to the center of the earth with his uncle, wants to run off immediately but his mother Liz (this time played by Kristen Davis) only agrees because Hank volunteered to take him. Sean still has teen attitude but knows it is the only way to go. They get to Palau and find a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) who will take them to the coordinates and traveling with them will be the pilot's daughter Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens). Sean immediately goes into teen-boy frenzy with this prospect. Sean & Kailani Of course the chopper goes down in the perpetual storms that surround this mysterious island and they end up stranded on shore. From here, as in the center of the earth the adventures begin. The island has a reverse of sizes so elephants can be picked up and bees can be ridden. Also, giant lizards that get angry when you step on their eggs. . They find Sean's grandfather Alexander (Michael Caine) and also find out they must leave the island which is the lost Atlantis and is about to sink again. Grampa Alexander Looking for A Way Off the Island You will see all the expected special effects adventure, some that seem to have come from Avatar, when birds start trying to eat our adventurers who are riding huge bees. You can tell the scenes that were made for 3-D but they work as well in normal screen view. This movie is rated PG - it's for kids. I really enjoyed it.
