I do. I have a stammer. It's not very noticeable most of the times ... but sometimes I just lock up and can't get a word out, and the only thing I can do is to pause, take a deep breath, and try to find another way of saying the same thing. It's a real pain in the wotsits, I'll tell you. Am I alone, or does anyone else suffer from this ... or any other speech impediment?
Speaking in public is one of my strong suits and I'm very comfortable in front of the camera :2thumbsup: Hotwater
I have a little bit of a listhp It comes out more sometimes than others I think it's always there, but when I can hear it, I know it's bad
I sometimes seem to have too fast mind. I stumble in my own wits. I also get easily distracted so having too many alternative ways of saying it makes my speech fail.
I have a very slight lisp. I didn't even know I had one until I had a couple of people point it out recently. I say my s's like Drew Barrymore.
I use to stutter when i was a child, thanks the lawd i got over it but coupled with my dyslexia it wasn't a picnic...Now i talk great, but you can't get me to shut up
You are definitely not alone here! I have had a stutter since I was about 11. They feel like mental blocks or voids in my mind. I do the same thing as you: when I feel my mind is blocked, I have to find a similar way of saying the same thing. In the past couple months its gotten where sometimes I seriously take a full 5 seconds to say c-c-c-c-ca-c-ccc-c-can, so I'm going to see a speech therapist and see if he/she can help. I am an introverted person and maybe my inward focus kind of blocks my vocal expression.
Now and again I get hooked up on a word I just can't say but try to switch for another. Never been a huge problem but if someone brings it up I can usually say go f*** yourself no problem.
I had a friend that stuttered pretty bad and when he got hung up,I would tell him--"sing ,man-sing. So he would start to sing and had no stutter at all. That country singer,Mel Tillis was like that.
I used to have a really bad drug problem (crack, whole other story) about 8 or 9 years ago and I OD'd once and had a seizure, ever since then when I get super high on weed I sometimes forget what I was saying in mid sentence or I forget a word. I probably should have went to the hospital after it happened, but I was in a really bad place back then.
I've had a stammer since I was a child. But then again, I've had problems with nerves for as long as I can remember. I think the reason I stammer is the same reason why my hands involuntarilyshake. I've always been nervous around other people, and I think that's where my stammer originated from.
I stammer sometimes and mumble, but I really think it's because I don't talk very much. For me, I think it's a matter of lack of practice. I also think it's the reason I get so long winded on these forums.
