Do You Think That There Is Any Hope For My Generation?

Hello! :) I have been a bit discouraged these days. I see and hear constantly "The music today sucks! It's all fake and about how much money they can make" "Your generation is going to be living in sewer water, parks will be the only places where you'll see trees." "Your generation is brainwashed by your cell phones and video games, no one ever goes outside anymore!" "You all complain but won't do anything to change the world!"
This has worried me that my future will consist of even more pollution and less nature, selfish and greedy peers, and no passion or creativity. So I should stop being a baby and go do something right?
I have tried, and am still trying. I held some peace gatherings over the summer (and going to have free-ins, where we give everything away for free) but many who went didn't even give a crap about peace or community, they were just there for the food. Is there any alternative community left that embraces peace, love, and community? People say that true rave culture is dead, i've also heard that rainbow gatherings aren't like how they used to be, etc.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read all of this! <3

Oops. I shouldn't have posted this, because I just found a really great answer to someone else's question no here:

"The good news is that there is much hope for you. You haven't bought into the anger and fear yet, and you remain open enough to seek guidance.

You don't need to worry about fitting in, or what 'society' is up to. You don't need to move to another country. All the things you seek are within you. Be true to yourself.

You've heard the phrase from the movie 'Field of Dreams'... "Build it and they will come"? Let's apply that cool little phrase to ourselves. Let it have this meaning; work on building your character, your convictions, your soul, your strength and your love, and those whose company you seek will naturally gravitate towards you. Remember it's not the quantity of friends that is important, it is the quality.

Without a strong spiritual foundation, one is lost. Spiritualism is not about religion, it is about awareness. Of the world around you, of your connection to the universe. We are all made of stardust, we are all connected to everything there is. You must feel it, you must cultivate it. Do not lose that connection by putting too many things between yourself and the natural world. Things like ego, fear, anger, insecurity. The less you have between you and the now, the more aware you become.

I feel much compassion for the younger folks these days who don't have the support around you that we had in the 60's. Back then there were many of us on the path. These days not so much. But that doesn't mean all is lost. It's just more of a challenge. Meet that challenge with openness and honesty. Stay focused on positive energy. Stand in the rain of love and it will wash the negativity away.

Time is not linear, it is spherical. Past, present and future is a four dimensional sphere. The 60's are still happening on another point around the Wheel. Everything that has ever happened, and everything that has yet to happen, is happening now.

When we are in a higher state of consciousness, whether it be through psychedelics or meditation, we can feel the vibrations of things around us. Molecules vibrate. Each and every object has it's own frequency. The Native Americans knew this and called these vibrations 'spirits'. To them, everything was alive and had it's own spirit, even rocks and sand. Science is now proving all this to be correct. The natural wisdom of the ancient shamans encompasses all the answers that science seeks.

Connect yourself to these vibrations and all the rest will fall into place. Look for the center of the universe and find your place on the Wheel, and you will find you are not alone.

    Peace. "

    Really inspired me :)

Things are getting exponentially better if you look carefully at things. Everyone you know would rather be themselves today then themselves in 1900. They'd rather be in 1900 than 1800 and so on. The king of Spain in 1500, when it was at the peak of its power, would trade places with you in an instant. Any car from today would be the most valuable thing on the planet in 1800.

Things are great. Complaining about them is a useful mechanism that keeps us from getting complacent, that way quality of life continues to improve.

You probably won't find what you seek in Toledo.... Hang in there, stay active, keep the faith... You'll get there when it's time.

You must be the change you wish to see in the world. - Gandhi

So hang in there. Signs of change are in the wind. The occupy movement has taken root here while revolutions in other parts of the world have put an end to the tyrants who were holding the people down. There's a long hard fight ahead, and no one is thinking that all will be right with the world when it's over, at best we can hope that things will be better. In another year you'll be 18 and done with high school, then you'll have greater freedom to exercise your activism.

Well, let me first say that the younger generation (dunno, I used to reckon myself to that, I was born in the 80's) holds a lot of potential to make positive changes. Unless you mean hope to create a new hippie movement, that's rather pointless.
Generalizations like the music sucks, you're all fake and not creative, too materialistic (take a look at the fucking babyboomers, they teached us :p) are all subjective and biased. If you do not look further than your own nose things may appear like this. It's not so black and white though, there is lots of hope and potential. Somebody got us in this shit and it wasn't the upcoming generation so don't take too much shit from those old farts :D

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us..."

Charles Dickens wrote that about a particular time and place, but it could also be applied to the present. This Dickens quote seems relevant too:

"Reflect on your present blessings, of which every man has many; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some."

I enjoy old memories of good times, but I wouldn't want to go back to those days and give up everything that has come my way since then. Do you know what people used to do when their unreliable cars broke down in the middle of nowhere and the weather was terrible? They walked until they found a phone! Those who worship the past tend to overlook a lot of unpleasant details...and bigger things like sexism and racism and religious dogmatism.

Thanks to digital music technology, you can listen to almost anything that has ever been recorded anywhere. :) If you don't like the new stuff, you can ignore it and play something better.

Well you can change more in that position than settling with going back to the sixties like all other nostalgic hippies ;)

To be honest, this is true. Our generation has given to yours a world that is thoroughly trashed, and many of your peers are yobs who think that a trashed world is just fine.

You ask if there is any hope? You are the hope. The world needs people with a vision who won't sell out, who are willing to be the black sheep.

Be true to yourself and be kind. Be the change you want to see.

Wow! Thank you SO much everyone! I'm sorry for the pessimism, it just really saddened me, realizing that all I ever hear about are celebrities instead of new discoveries (among space, solving global warming, etc), but you are all right! I just need to look harder, and I will probably see A LOT more once I am out of Toledo. You have all inspried me so much, I am starting an environment group to help cleanup Toledo now, thanks to all of you:)
