hello.. this is beginning of my third week of dreads. now the problem is they look like shit! i know, i know i have to be patient and everything will look worse before it looks better. i know it will be a year before it looks right. im in it for the long haul :2thumbsup:. BUT... i haven't seen anyone's look this bad. all of mine are wimpy, the ends are all loose straight hair, the roots are loose. with each wash (2 so far) i have a bunch if short hairs popping out. i did the backcombing method. no wax. i washed with dreadhead soap.
I see no problem. They're wimpy (as you put it) because you don't have very long hair, i.e. not very much. Once your hair gets longer and they start to lock and shrink they'll probably start to thicken. If they don't get as thick as you want them to be you can just let them congo. Seriously though, you can't expect that much after 3 weeks. Just keep them clean and avoid thinking about them every day. Mine looked crap for ages, it's normal.
Mine too! Thought this said 3 months and I was still like give it some time. But 3 weeks!? Holyshitman, embrace this period. Before you know it your hair won't look like wimpy pieces of shit and you will miss that phase.
Huh, they look good to me. My dreadies are two and a half weeks old so far, and what really bothers me is how uneven they are- the left side is thinner and much more loose than the right... oh well, I can alwas congo the left side once they're older. And some dreads have normal hair the first few inches, then it knots up towards the bottom. Whatever, I'll see how it goes I say keep uploading pics so we can see how they go! Edit: Also, I hadn't washed my hair for 4 or 5 days, and the back bottom of my hair started looking really nasty. It looked like it had a gray hue to it and was almost flat. I washed it with some baking soda and rosemary oil, and it picked up- so it may just be from not showering.
three weeks is NOTHING!!!! my hair stuck out of my head in all directions for like FOUR MONTHS. do some more research on dreads, you will see that they do not look good for AGES unless you start with super long, super thick hair and perfectly tight backcombing. if you are missing any one of those things, you're shit is going to look like shit for a whileeeeeee.
Here're my 3 week-olds... Sorry the picture's so big... I have no clue how to shrink the damn thing... http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/_Brobee_/DSCN3218.jpg
Big THANKS to everyone... Quick update.. they still look like shit.. some look alright, most look like half dread with loose ends and a bunch of runaway loose hairs around them...
