Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol Movie Blurb by Shale December 21, 2011 In my DVD collection is Mission Impossible, the 1996 first takeoff of an old TV fantasy/spy show that ran from 1966-1973. I never collected the other two sequels, can't even remember if I bothered to see them in theater. Like the James Bond franchise, it sort of gets old after a while. But, I went to see this fourth installment today because of all the good word I've heard about it. And, it is true. 49-year-old Tom Cruise is better than ever and there are even some scenes that reminded me of some Bond moments. Hunt, Ethan Hunt The story is still a "mission improbable" but gives enuf credence to justify all the action scenes. Starting with the breakout of Ethan Hunt (Cruise) from a Russian prison by the IMF team of Benji (Simon Pegg) on computers and Jane (Paula Patton) setting bombs. Jane & Benji But that is just openers. The real story is about a nutcase guy wants to start WWIII by blowing up the Kremlin, implicating the mission impossible team, then stealing the codes to loose a Russian ICBM to the states. The IMF team, which has been disavowed under the ghost protocol and is on its own and which has picked up a new member, Brandt (Jeremy Renner) is going to get the codes back to disarm the missiles and the plan. This will involve them going on a globe trotting action trek. The IMF Team On The Move You've likely seen the trailers of Hunt scaling the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the tallest building on the planet with some special sticky gloves. Good foto work here! If you have a bit of acrophobia it will actually kick in on some of those scenes. It's then off to Mumbai for more confrontation, more action, more revelations of all the team members' personal pain. But none of the dialogue or storyline gets in the way of more action. (Including a car flying thru the air on a freeway over Hunt and crashing to the other side - it was deja vu all over again) This movie is what it is and it does that very well. An enjoyable two-and-a-quarter hours.
Thanks I’m definitely going to go see it rather than wait like I have so many times this year for the movie to come out on DVD :2thumbsup: Hotwater
I thought this was a pretty awesome action movie, lots of clever bits in it. And the cast they picked for this one gelled well, surprisingly unpretentious for a Cruise movie
I enjoyed the beginning, but in the end it started losing the thrill, or the point, or something. So I could recommend it if you have nothing to do on Saturday night.
