The new album is Visions. I went into this thinking it would be some overrated hipster shit. It might be. If it is, it's some of the best overrated hipster shit I've heard. It's a newly-released electropop/synth pop/dream pop album that came out in January. I have never heard of the artist up until this point, but she makes this peculiar type of synth pop that seems to derive from some of the worst electropop of the past two decades, yet somehow makes those sounds appealing and even slightly addictive with some incredibly melodic synths and some excellent beats, steeped in a very thick, dreamy production. I think this is one of the best "new" synth pop/electropop albums I've heard since The Knife's Silent Shout. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORBHHrZX8kE"]Grimes - Oblivion - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnLByz-atCs"]Grimes - Genesis - YouTube
Pretty cool. diggin the vocalist.. i like the second track better i think. The Knife station on Pandora is a good one.
Grimes is actually the alias of Claire Boucher, who is the same person singing. She is based out of Montreal, Quebec. She seems like such a naive little hipster in interviews. Kind of annoying, actually. Pretty inarticulate, too. But then again, I am not always the best when it comes to speaking. ( I don't say "like" after every word, either.) I just find it surprising this music is the work of the same person in the video below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2AXhYKEpcI"]On Display: Claire Boucher - Grimes - YouTube She looks better here and sounds slightly less stoned. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ycsd_ZXcXfE"]Grimes Interview February, 2012 - YouTube
Yeah, havent been here in a while. Wow, she totally looks like such a hipster in the first vid! *rolls eyes* lol. crazy. she looks young.
I can dig it, definitely. I like her voice a lot. I couldn't even get through the first interview video, though, because she was annoying the fuck out of me. But I thought she was likable in the second video. and waaaaaaay prettier.
I've had Oblivion stuck in my head for the last two days thanks to Stereogum. I almost hate admitting how much I like it. It's relaxing though.
