ganesha, I don't know what part of Germany you are from or if you can even read (and understand) English all that well...that being said. In the US there most certainly ARE RULES, LAWS and/or REGULATIONS (however you want to put it) that are in place regarding being barefoot, especially for people entering restaurants or diners. These rules, laws, regulations, etc are put in place by DHEC (Department of Health and Environmental Control), which has it's place at the "top", in Washington.

Other businesses (not restaurants) are able to make their own rules, as they SEE FIT regarding being barefoot and entering their establishment. That is another US fact.

Lynnbrown, Ich bin im Ruhrgebiet zuhause und habe einen Juristen (Richter) als Bruder...

I'm in the Ruhr area, and one of my brothers is a judge by profession... I know what legal ramifications to look out for, when such a discussion is held, trust me.
    :D

Whatever rules establishments have for customers are part of their own house rules and nothing Federal. The regulations for footwear at work (be it stores, restaurants, steel mills) are regulated by OSHA. Unless you work in restaurant that has a white-coat genetic engineering type of kitchen, there is no law anywhere against bare feet - just individual rules.

We're not dense, just trying to live our life as we wish and not according to the status quo. With the freedom as we choose.

Maybe you're the one who's dense

The people being dense are the ones citing health codes. So far I've never needed to look for a book in the B&N cafe.

Wow, did we get a few people posting here by mistake or something? If you don't like being barefoot or others who do, then go post somewhere else!

For those who may be unaware, there are ZERO health codes/laws/statutes/regulations/whatever that say shoes are required of patrons in public establishments. Someone saying shoes are required because of laws or health codes is either ignorant or a liar. Check the Society for Barefoot Living www.barefooters.org to see the myths debunked, including letters from nearly every state health department in the US confirming that there are no such regulations.

I wash my feet at least twice a day. You really think a shoe or some thin sandal between my foot and the ground is somehow more sanitary? When was the last time you washed those shoes? Where all have you stepped in those shoes? Think about that.

    wow project a little?

I don't think anyone posting here has proclaimed any such dislike of barefootism.

Stop acting such a victim, it's really a small thing in comparison to the myriad injustices of our society.

True enough... but the barefoot mythology still being so strong in people's minds can be infuriating, sometimes...

In the state of SC there most certainly are state laws saying that if you enter that establishment, you must have on shoes or a shirt.

Each time a person representing the state comes to a diner or restaurant, usually every 6 months, if they are maintaining their own rules - they check to make sure you have that sign that says

No Admittance Without Shoes and Shirts

Period. They - by they I do mean the country inspectors whom in turn keep the place open or not and "grade the place" - you are given 30 days to comply with all their standards. Having not even children enter such establishments without shoes is unacceptable nationwide. I know it is so in this state. There most certainly are laws and rules covering this.

This says otherwise. http://www.barefooters.org/health-dept/SC2009.html. At least as of 2009.

LOL - I just got neg repped by someone I thought actually had sense...oh well...saying that these rules, laws, etc I am referring to "don't exist".
I don't care what link exists where. I know from living here.

Please somebody else that works in a cafe or restaurant - or even other places where these ARE RULES indeed! Stand Up! Is SC The only state with state rules and regs which again comply with fed rules/regs...saying shoes must be worn in such an establishment? (Plus shirts...but we are real lax with that, with bathing suit tops.)

I stand by what I originally said. I'm fixing to open a food stand, of sorts...I know what I'm talking about. I've worked in more than one restaurant where we had to ask someone to leave without shoes (mostly) because the state lady was there while mister and child-barefoot came in.

Tried to rep you but I've given out too much rep in the last 24 hrs, trying to cancel out your neg rep

But also I agree.. even if there are laws or not there is a time and place for barefeet and being in an eating establishment is not one of them.. it's slightly disgusting.. you want to eat without shoes eat at home or get your food to go and go to the park or something

Just wear your shoes. Not everybody wants to see your nasty feet. Especially if its a food establishment of some sort. I used to work at pizza hut and I had to kick people out who came in barefoot.

    1. All posts pop up in the new posts section, not all of us are trolling the barefoot forum

    2. I'm not anti-barefoot. I do enjoy barefooting a good bit of the time. HOWEVER there is a time and a place for barefooting and in an eating establishment and places of similar nature are not proper places for the lacking of foot attire

Please post a link to such rules or laws. I have yet to find any with regards to South Carolina or any other jurisdiction. The letters on SBL from the SC health department clearly show that there are no regulations regarding footwear on customers in public establishments. I scoured the entire SC Health Department website for anything regarding "shoes required", "barefoot", etc. and found NOTHING on the subject.

To many of us barefooters, most anywhere can be a good place to be barefoot. I really could care less whether you want to see them or not. It's my personal choice of how I wish to live my life, and there are no laws governing such a choice. "Well what if someone wants to go topless/nude?" Well, there are indecency laws against that. But there are none against being barefoot, unless you can post clear proof of otherwise.
