Hello, OK, no dessert for RetiredHippie . I as most other Germans learned basic English at school. That was more than two decades ago. At that time I had not much trouble to understand other Germans speaking English. I think it is because we all make the same mistakes and have the crude structure of the sentences. Years later I discovered international conferences and the internet and things changed slowly. Nowadays it's sometimes hard for me to listen to English speakers from Germany. Not to say that I can do it better, my accent is pretty hard I guess . Regards Gyro
When I went to Germany and spoke in my normal voice (A Canadian accent) they laughed at "how bad" my English was. Germans are to English what Americans are to French.
I have difficulty in Germany also, with my accent (more to Poland, France, for example). I think, it is worst in Bavaria (I have people do not understand my accent at all). However, people here are very patient and kind to me.
I'd have to say my most favorite and most hated accents are both all american. A southern accent is so sexy.. but new york accents are so fucking annoying
no offense to my fellow americans. But since I moved.to aus at the beginning the amount if times people thought I was american lol. Now mt canadian friends tell me I'm sounding aus but ppl here still say I'm yankee sounding look
I used to know a girl from South Africa and I loved her accent. Scottish accents are pretty awesome. I love a good New York accent too; well, really only male accents. The female New York accents set my teeth on edge, but something about that accent in a man is so sexy. I hate certain types of southern accents because I have to hear them every day and I just want to scream "LEARN HOW TO TALK." I do like the old-fashioned genteel southern accents that belongs mainly to the 70-95 year old age group.
I'm a New Englander...I hate the New England/Boston accent. I pronounce my R's and people think I'm foreign... I like almost all accents and I think almost any accent could be sexaaay...except for Asian/Middle Eastern.
