https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcPhaieTg4o"]Criterion Trailer 165: Man Bites Dog - YouTube anyone like this movie? i was just thinking about it after reading the clockwork orange thread. deals with a lot of the same themes- urban alienation, desensitization to violence, but its also about the moral problems of making a documentary film and to what extent you become complicit in whatever you're shooting. its about a group of film students following around a professional (he kills for a living but also...just because) serial killer, whose quite funny, charismatic and charming at points, but talks about murder like he's talking about being a postman or a lawyer, likes its just his boring 9 to 5. the director shot himself not long after making it, i believe. its not all that surprising tbh, this is as dark a fucking film as i've ever seen. the blackest of black comedy, still entertaining in a really twisted way, never thought i'd feel sorry for a remorseless serial killer because no-one wants to eat their lunch with him lol completely captivating and you can't help watching to the end, but be warned if you've not seen it before some scenes are VERY hard to watch. really interesting flick though. anyone seen it?
Yeah I saw this a while back...its really well done! Its not the type of movie i'd want to watch again and again, but it was entertaining in a slightly disturbing way.... It reminded me a little of Henry: Portrait of a serial killer....also a good watch
Loved it when I first saw it. Haven't seen it in a long time. Sure it's still pretty good, but the themes have been exploited often since then, and I can't help think the impact would be quite lessened in the age of smartphones and iPads. Especially since the whole group would probably have gotten caught rather quickly in this day and age. Now, a sequel/reboot where the camera crew is tried as accessories.... that would have plenty of thematic fodder for these times.
