ok, i'm gonna be without cash for a good two or three weeks, so i'm gonna go shopping tomorrow with like $40, and i have to get enough food to last me... so here's my list, feel free to help a brother out. loaf of bread (i already have PB n' J) gallon of milk cereal packs of lipton noodles and soup hot dogs hamburgers and i'll probaby go to the local dollar store to get some canned foods...
at the grocery store, they have those little things of canned chicken and stuff (if you eat meat) next to the tuna.... we used to make the Lipton sides things and mix that in... it's a little more filling, and they're like 50 cents...
yeah i was also thinking about mixing things, and if i cook a big meal i can always have leftovers... oh the life of a college student...
That's what I do when my mom goes out of town.... I cook up a bunch of spaghetti or something while I'm still sober and untainted by sin and I can actually maneuver my way around the kitchen..... then I have something to eat for the rest of the week, even if I get sick of it. Which I don't, usually, because spaghetti rocks.
spaghetti sounds good, but i dunno how to cook it really... my mom tried to teach me but i forgot... but i think i'm gonna have to do the leftover thing, so i'll just by filling things, cook big meals, and then just warm them up.
haha... you boil the noodles for like 8 minutes until they're tender and you can cut them with your fork... then you drain them, open up a can of sauce, and pour it on. If I can do it, anyone can....
id say keep an eye out for bruised or moldly fruit, or cans with dents, or missing labels, as you can probly get a discount on them
Buy yourself a big bag of potatoes. they're really easy to cook in all manner of ways and are really cheap. Just chuck em in the microwave or oven and cook them until they're soft when you poke a fork into them. Or boil them in a pot and have them like that. You can fry them up as well. Also, have you thought about going to your nearest food bank and getting something from them?
It is also really easy to make mac n cheese from scratch. Just get a big box of plain noodles and a block of cheddar cheese, cook (boil) the noodles, grate a couple handfuls of the cheese, add a couple of pats of butter and a splash of milk, and viola! Much cheaper than the stuff in the blue box and way better too Alex
thanks all for the suggestions... but i'll tell ya this, i am no good with making anything from scratch. i was raised on the packaged means (a shame)... so i wanna steer clear of stuff like that cause i don't wanna buy it and either not use it or use it and it doesn't work to my liking. i hate to sound picky, but if i'm gonna be poor, i wanna enjoy eating the food i have while being poor...
how could i forget the ramen noodles! and the blood! i surely don't know where i would be after 2 weeks without the blood. thanks for reminding me.
If you have a crock pot, cooking with left overs in mind can be simple For example: Chicken + frozen veggies + seasoning (preferably McCormick bagged seasoning) = easy dinner with lots of left overs. This method works with any type of meat and frozen vegetables. Put it on before you leave for class, and by the end of the day, it will be ready and waiting for you. Cheap, quick, and easy. Or, you can make it easier and just buy frozen crock pot style foods (I think it's Banquet brand). OR.... you can hire me for my first personal chef job. I don't charge much at all.
