How do you deal with helplessness

So on another website I read that Iraq declared Emo Kids were Satinic in February. Since then the stoned and battered bodies of 15 Emo kids have been dumped as a message. Become a brainless muslim dumbass like us or die. This festering piece of shit government was installed over the bodies of countless Iraqies vs American and other troops. All of these dead were called to slaughter by old, holy book banging fundamentalist men, some on one side, some on the other.

The helpless rage I feel when I read these things eats my soul. What can I do? Nothing will bring these dead kids back. There is no one face to hate for this crime against the young. No one person that can be sought out and made to pay. All anyone can do is read this shit and say "how sad". What the Fuck.

I hate this shit, it's wrong in so many ways that these religious cowards hide behind their various holy books and destroy lives. And if the middle east isn't enough of a reeking religious wreck we got Santorum, old frothy mix himself, standing a chanch of being the republican candidate for President. Oh My Fucking God, that fool could be our next leader. He has the same mind set as those cretanious old clerics that poison the Muslim world.

Does that not just drive you nuts? The horror of these kids being slaughtered is bad enough. The real terror is these superstion believing religious fools on either side may be calling the shots for all the world to deal with.

How do people keep from going batshit nuts after reading the news?... I'm needing some help here.

 

I feel the same way you do. It sucks because there is nothing we can do about it, nothing. This is why I just try not to watch the news or even read it sometimes, it just effects me way too much. I feel so bad for all the innocent people that have died in Iraq and all of the other fucked up countries.

 

for me, it's necessary to believe in karma or some kind of divine justice. I do what I can to make the world better, and then I just have faith the everything will work out.

you can easily drive yourself mad if you try to take on too much of the world's problems

Nearly everyone I know thats not
religious still looks at me like I'm nuts If I try to bring it up. Most of them are victims of TV culture and don't have opinions that are not aligned with pop culture in general. They can't see the parallels.

My first instinct is to retreat, stop being aware of things that are not my immediate concern, stop reading the news, stop with the rightous indignation, stop stressing my brain over it...I've even considered going to hard drugs and liquor. fuck it

It does drive me nuts, but in the end it does come down to economics, you need a certain amount of wealth per capita to limit corruption. Local authoritires less likely to take bribes and the associatred risk if yheir normal pay packets are healthier combined with governments having enough to pay for the salaries of a whole bunch of crosscheckers.

Everything in the end is about money, there ie no better motivator. Iraq will be better off over the next couple decades for reasons that have more to do with the changing world economy, not so much the war. Greece on the other hand looks like its headed down the toilet

Reading threads like this discourages me more than anything I could ever imagine seeing on the news, because it shows that people are blindly falling for the bullshit.

How the hell can anyone possibly know if what a corporation (which is what the news outlets are) is telling them the truth, or feeding you bullshit as a way to make you go along with shit you otherwise wouldn't?

To me it has become necessary to just assume anything coming from mainstream sources is BS in one way or another- particularly with respect to international news items. The corporate sources have so destroyed their own credibility that even when the details of an item can be verified I have to ask myself what is the agenda for giving priority to this piece to make the news as opposed to something else and judge according to the political context it is being given.

I had a English prof. tell us the truth is usually the opposite of what the 'news' is saying. In other words look for the slant. The underlying intent of what the article is conveying.
Were the kids killed for the way they were dressed or was there a deeper underlying cause?
