Just wondering if anyone on here knows anything about guitars? I'm not to great with them, i know a few songs though. I've had mine for about a year, but its a really cheap one i got for a 100$ (probably not even worth that) at some second hand pawn shop... I never really got into using it, because it and the amp both sound like crap (the amp was included with it) But i'm really interested in learning how to play guitar again. But its difficult seeing as how none of the songs i want to learn sound the same cause my guitar is so messed up. All the strings buzz or rattle when i play them? Anyone know what could be causing this? It sounds like the rattling noise is coming from the head of the guitar. Also, if i loosen the strings a loot by untuning it, the rattling is reduced a lot! (but this also puts it majorly out of tune, obviously) Also, my amp - if i turn it on, it has this really loud humming/buzzing noise, and i know its not the guitar because even when the guitars not plugged in, it still hums. But you know the little chord that goes from the amp to the guitar? If that's not plugged into the amp, it doesn't hum at all... but soon as i put it in, it starts to hum, even though the other end isn't hooked up to the guitar... So how is this one single chord causing the humming? And help would be greatly appreciated! If anyone here knows of anyone on HF that is familiar with guitars, please show him/her this thread
If its humming , then its probably got some bad pots, wiring, ground disconnected. The amps ground could be bad, or your whole house wiring could be the culprit. lets see a picture of your guitar. Most amps will hum if you have a bare jack in it, and its not plugged into anything else. Its a circuit. You havent completed it.
I think our house wiring could be the issue, we have pretty shitty wiring and outlets. But then again it could just be the amp as well. And the amp hums just as much when its plugged into the guitar as well, weird But i found my acoustic guitar! pretty excited about that, its the only one i usually use because of how messed up my electric is. But i'll take a pic of it now and post it up when i get it on my laptop
Its not humming silly. You know how a cat will pur before you even pet him? Its just like that. The Amp cables link sound with noise, so the cable isn't taking in any noise, what you hear is White noise or "Nothing" but amplified.
who makes that electric ?? its missing a saddle for the high E.. cant even put a string on it. get some nylon strings for the acoustic , it will sound better.
The humming is due to your guitar having single-coil pickups. There's a different kind called humbucker pickups that, well, buck the hum noise. The string buzzing could be: your strings are too tight, the neck is too tight, or the frets need replacing. Try to find somebody IRL to look at it for you.
Why, yes... Yes I do. Probably needs a neck adjustment at the very least, or the nut need work (white plastic piece at the headstock that the strings go through)... These are normally done as part of a setup. You may want to price a setup at some local shops but they are not usually cheap especially considering what you paid for the guitar. Neck adjustment is something that is better off left to the pros BUT not beyond the capability of someone mechanically inclined that's willing to pay attention to what's going on. Nut adjustments/cutting is a little bit touchier and calls for some special files most people don't have... This could be a bad guitar cable, or the amp itself, or as has been said the house wiring. Do you know anybody else that has an electric guitar and amp. Easy to rule stuff out if you take your stuff to their place and try your amp with their guitar and cable, your cable with their amp and guitar, etc. etc. I can help as much as possible, but long distance guitar repair get's dodgy, if you know what I mean...
The electric guitar's made by Burswood, i've never heard of them until i got this Guitar, i'm assuming its not a top quality guitar or anything... And can i get another saddle added for the high E? I noticed it was missing the string once i got home from the pawn shop, i was brand new to guitars and the shop owner didn't even bother telling me the string was missing... And i'll look into that, the first 3 strings are kind of metally on the acoustic, and the last 3 are like.. see threw, almost look like fishing lines? Is that nylon?
Yep, those are classical guitar strings. I believe the top 3 are nylon wound with metal and the bottom three are just clear nylon.
I only know of one guitar shop around, Tom Lee's, but they're usually very expensive, i've only been there twice. I would bring it in to get fixed, but considering the fact that i only paid 100$ for the guitar and amp together, it might not be worth it? I think i'll just put this one back in the closet But i do like my acoustic, it sounds a lot better than my electric and doesn't have any real issues. Maybe i'll practice on my acoustic, and if i get good and really into it again, i'll possibly invest in getting a new electric guitar.
Haha kind of what i was thinking as well i'll mess around with it a bit, see what i can do with it, but i wouldn't bother actually paying to get it fixed or anything. What about the acoustic? Does it seem like a cheap rip off guitar as well? I did get it for free though, one of my moms friends gave it to her to give to me, i know nothing about it though, like who made it. I searched everywhere and can't find a name on it. But i think it sounds pretty decent, compared to the electric that is...
Oh good, for a while i thought the last 3 clear strings were literally just fishing line somebody put on
Also, does anybody know a reeally easy beginner song i can learn, for acoustic? I used to know a few, but i haven't played in about a year almost. And i forgot all the tabs and whatnot, pretty much everything i knew i forgot. So it needs to be real basic
i used to use headphones as pickups by plugging them into the guitar in socket on the amp and placing the head set on the body of the guitar so guitar looked like it was wearing them if you still get humming and buzzing then the amps no good. anyway just sounds like your run of the mill cheap guitar the electrics always die. can't help on song choice i is a bass player.
If only i had some big headphones like that, lol. And i picked a song, Johnny Cash - Hurt, It's pretty easy plus its an awesome song!
hey not a very good description on my part meant on both sides of the body like on horn or heel of the guitar anyway have fun learning guitar again.
Man, playing guitar seems a lot harder than it used to be and i sucked before too Switching from chord to chord is so hard, it takes me a while to position all my fingers perfectly, and in the main chorus of this song i only have to go from A minor - C Major - D Major I easily memorized the chords within a few minutes, but placing my fingers there in time is the hard part... especially D Major, i can't get that one down
