Prime Example http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/11/world/asia/afghanistan-us-service-member/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 An American goes on a shooting rampage, killing 16 civilians, 9 of them children. Yet it's called a "crime" it's labeled anything but a terrorist act; which it is! Many Americans and Christians have committed terrorism through the years but the word terrorism is avoided. For example, McVeigh was simply "The OKC Bomber". This lack of fairness is evidence of US imperialism. Those people are seen as less valuable. Read comments on any site and you won't see less of an outrage from comments as you would from a story of someone having 10 children. Quite the contrary, about half of them are trying to justify why the guy did it. Yet another reason why we need to get out of foreign countries. If we can't understand them, at least the tiniest bit, then how are we ever going to "help" them. it's pure and simple: self-righteous imperialistic fantasy.
"Terrorism" is an emotive word used for political purposes. The US are world leaders in marketing and buzz words are a key part of that. How much Coca-cola would they have sold if they would have told the truth, that it is gut rotting, teeth rotting, hugely overpriced sugary shit? Or how would they have invaded another country like Iraq if they hadn't invented WMD's, "weapons on mass destruction", sounds fantastic and covers just about anything you want it to. "9/11" rolls right off the tongue. Sounds much better than "a self inflicted insurance fraud, designed to terrorise the people into letting the Bush administration do whatever they please." Then there is the "Big Mac" 8 cents worth of ingredients sold for a dollar. If you are wondering why I am mixing popular rubbish US products with the deaths of millions, well they are all bout making money at all costs. Oh if you think of all the people who have died as a result of obesity, then all 4 about the deaths of millions.
One man's "terrorist" is another man's "freedom-fighter" (paraphrase of words purportedly from Louis Farrakhan.)
terrorism has no universally agreed, legally binding, criminal law definition... its also politcally charged, the example you gave I would say is terrorism if there was some sort of motive behind it such as wanting a change or something... idk lol
That may be true, but if this guy was an Afghan member of the Taliban, this would have been called a terrorist act.
E.L.F group members (Earth Liberation Front) we're prosecuted and publicly labeled as terrorists after blowing up corporate companies that we're destroying the environment.
Back in the 60's when you read newspapers, all the articals then was about terrorism, they were mostly about groups like TheRedBrigade, BadderMeinhofGang, SybianLiberationArmy, they were attacking BANKERS, INDUSTRIALIST, and such, as you follow the money trail, when you want to find out whats going on and to whom. Before that, COMMIES became the buzz word, to do anything sickening to your own people, to keep them safe....dumb sheeple. Since the days of the ancients, just cause a great horror, and make it look as if someone else did it. In the 80's it was easy to start whipping up stories about terrorist, once the marines barracks were blown up in (Lebenon) whatever country that happened in early 80's. Americans dont like to acknowledge that we are the terrorist (to her own people) since what 1849 or so, as general Polk (I think) was the first general to lie to the president about the Mexican army killing and maiming along the frontier. However, it is well documented that Polk, had sent his troops into Mexico, (in plain clothes) to attack their forts in the night, to steal clothes and gear, and they (Polks boys) did all the killing and maiming along the frontier (Americans and Mexicans) to get us into a war, with a foe they knew was less equiped. We have been empire building for about a 150 years now. Look at the genocide mighty whitey did to the American Indian, who helped to keep them alive at first...hugeass mistake on thier part. All in the name Freedom and Justic for All!! Fight the Fed, Americans!! They are the greatest terrorist on the planet. This soldier is a product of his enviroment. On the other hand, our soldiers are committing sucide at astronomical numbers. Maybe they have realized what liars we have become....maybe they realized were under a military dictatorship, and lost hope, as they (military) love keeping us in a perpetual war motion.
Reagan was calling the Taliban "freedom fighters" in the 80's when they were fighting Soviet Imperialism. The thing that really blows my mind is that we have historically provided arms to these "terrorists" and right now, as we speak, we are training and arming the next generation of "insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan". The fact of the matter is this: the U.S. economy depends on a perpetual state of war to exist. it won't stop until we demand that the senator put his son in mortal danger too. To these people, the poor are literally born to die in their wars. They're meaningless. Completely expendable and viewed with disgust and derision, until they start getting restless and aware - then the elites get scared shitless, because they know full well that generations of priviledge and false entitlement could be undone in a single day. Sure they feign gratitude and call them heroes, but it's all bullshit. We love our dictators (remember Noriega? he was our man in Panama) until they step out of line or cease to be useful to us. Star Wars is an absolute allegory of what this nation has been doing since Vietnam -silly as that sounds. We are the Empire. This tone was set with the concept of "manifest destiny" and it's only grown from there.
My thoughts exactly when I started reading the posts on this thread! When I heard about that on the radio a while back I was a little stunned by the sentences they were getting tried for and realized it was because they were considered "terrorists".
Well if he was an Afghan member of the Taliban, then the killings would have been trying to accomplish the goals of the Taliban.
