I just think that the importance of his opinion is exaggerated -- as with many on both sides -- right and left. He's found and exploited a niche... a market so to speak. Sure, it'll hurt his standing some -- with most of his truly devoted following, probably not so much. If there's lasting effect, I'll be a little surprised.
oh I don't think it's just a niche, check this out... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/02/living-limbaugh-400-milli_n_110449.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/02/living-limbaugh-400-milli_n_110449.html dunno...Skips right though, he can certainly afford his own oxy factory.
"If you believe in freedom of speech, you believe in freedom of speech for views you don't like. Goebbels was in favor of freedom of speech for views he liked. So was Stalin. If you're in favor of freedom of speech, that means you're in favor of freedom of speech precisely for views you despise." -- Noam Chomsky, 1992 I say let him speak his peace. If he says anything wrong, set him straight or sue. His fans are not stupid, eventually they will see the light and quit listening to him. I should know. I used to be a big fan of his.
Well I can't blame the man for getting hooked on oxys. Thems be good stuffs. But for most everything else; I hope he dies in a fire. Love and peace! But everyone has their limits =D More like anally raped without a reach around.
I believe in free speech. I also believe advertisers have the right to advertise where they want and pull their advertising if they don't want their product associated with a particular person or organization. I would absolutely love if advertisers started shying away from political pundits. These guys need to disappear. Sure they have the right to their opinion, but at the end of the day they're just like everyone else; another asshole with an opinion. The problem is that people actually take their views to heart and take what they say as the ultimate truth, instead of just another opinion.
I read this morning the U.S. Army bailed on Rush... I guess they were an advertiser before this issue... This all must make Rush so proud.
Sponsers are fleeing ALL HATE RADIO,not just Rushs show! www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012...es-contagious-for-talk-radio-advertisers.html
Well it's now up to 140 advertisers fleeing Rush Limbaugh! And since 98 of them are also withdrawing from Premiere's other right-wing talk shows, it might mean the end of those shows altogether and hopefully the entire network. If nothing else, those wingers who remain will get paid far less money, as will the company. What I think is the BEST thing to come out of this, is how pissed off all the other r-winger talk show assholes must be at Rush. He can't possible last long under these circumstances. And this is happening at JUST THE RIGHT TIME, before the election gets into high gear... I think the Repubs have lost most women except for the most wealthy and the most subservient to their republican husbands. http://thinkprogress.org/media/2012/03/12/442673/141-companies-advertisng-rush-limbaugh/?mobile=nc
Here's the last 90 (in addition to the original 50) to pull their ads... Yesterday I noticed a new ad on CNN - from Carbonite, one of the first companies to pull their ads from Rush. Hey, I realize that because all these companies pulled their ads from just one radio show, they must be hurting and sitting on piles of advertising cash, so you're all welcome to come advertise here! Come over to the Other Side and see what liberal media can do for you... Well, we can dream can't we? I can't imagine how much money that gasbag and right-wing media company made with this many Multinational sponsors... 21st Century Insurance • Hotels.com • Rite Aid • Ace Hardware • Honda • Robitussin • Acura • IBM • Sam Adams • Advance Auto Parts • Icy Hot • Sam’s Club • Advil (All products) • Intuit/Small Business • Schiff – Digestive Advantage • Alacer/Emergen-C • Schiff – Mega Red • Allegra (all products) • Johnson & Johnson (All Brands) • Schiff – Move Free • Kohl’s • Schiff – Sustenex • Ally Bank • La Quinta • Scotts Miracle-Gro (all products) • American Express • Lifetime • Autozone • Little Caesars • Sony • Lowe’s • State Farm • British Petroleum • Luxottica • Staples • Bullfrog Sunblock • Macy’s • Sterling/Kay Jared Jewelers • Caltrate • MasterCard • Subway • Centrum • McDonalds • Takeda Uloric • Chapstick • Midas • The Home Depot • Clorox (Pinesol/Homecare) • Napa Auto Parts • ThermaCare • Cortizone • National Realtor • Toyota • DeVry • NBC-TV • Discover Card • Office Depot • Twinings of London • Domino’s Pizza • Office Max • Tyson/Wright Brand Bacon • Exxon/Exxon Mobil • One Main Financial • Unisom • Farmers Insurance • United Healthcare • Ford • Orkin • U.S. Army • Outback • U. Now people won't be able to parrot what they've heard from their favorite political pundit. Maybe now people will begin doing their own research and make informed political decisions. Well, we can dream.
I agree with you 100%. But in some cases the best thing one can do is let the airbag deflate. It goes to their heads that they are getting away with it, and then they'll start screwing up, and look at what's happening to Rush now. For so long he got away with it and now it's biting him. Let him continue, and it will get worse for him. Just shutting someone up isn't the issue. Instead letting them blow their own credibility is.
As of yesterday (3/13/12), over 140 companies have pulled their advertising dollars from his show. The move is on to get these companies to PERMANENTLY refuse to advertise with his show (and hopefully, as Skip pointed out above, others like his). Go to the following site to sign the petition: http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/limbaugh_2/?r=5540580&id=36557-5307319-P2o3TMx
Good idea, but you shouldn't have to give your email AND your street addy to sign a petition... You're gonna get spammed... Plus, this is already being done, a little petition isn't going to matter.
Very true Skip!!! If you want to give a throw away address from trash-mail.com (Who cares if that gets spam)
