I had no idea Canada was planing to spend that much money on its jails. I am from the U.S.(Phoenix, AZ) so its not up to me , I have no idea how much it is hear. One thing they could do is legalize all drugs . It would not slove all the worlds problems , but it would get a bunch of people out of the jail system . They would by earning there own living insteed of being tax payer fed . desert rat

I agree, putting more money in prisons is a bad idea.

 

Trying 14 year old kids as adults and introducing mandatory minimum sencentces. That means taking a 14 year old kid and sending him to learn from hardened criminals.

Oh, by the way the crime rate in canada is at it's lowest since 1973.

Texas had a similar law plan introduced a few years ago and they are now pedaling backwards to fix it because it did nothing exept endebt the country even more and raise criminality. But for some reason harper thinks he'll make it work.

On the 14 yo old kid as an adult , I think a lot would depend on the type of crime he/she has commited . Lets say this kid held up a store , got some money , killed the owner any way , yea this kid should in in jail for a long time . Lets say the kid smokes a joint , or drinks a 6 pac of beer , then its talk to parrents . desert rat
