* chuckles to self, * I knew the absurdity of the post's title would draw attention, but rest assured I mean no offense... My question revolves around tattooing fatty skin, actually. I'm a freelance practitioner who apprenticed years ago, but was too busy being a stoner to pursue the art. Now I'm clear of that vice and I've picked the tattoo gun back up. It's been an exciting couple of weeks for me as I've come to reacquaint myself with those old tools, but as I've practiced I've noticed that the skin of my fat(ter) friends has a harder time holding on to ink, or it warbles under the needle. Also, no matter how far out I draw the needle the ink puddles on their skin anyway. I've toyed with the voltage and had the customer help to draw the skin as tightly as possible, and when those things only helped marginally, I went online and all I found was a slew of slander against tatting fat people in their nether-regions... I'm looking for a mature, professional opinion on whether there's a certain way to approach fattier skin, or if I'm just going to have to grit my teeth and accept that it's going to take more effort?
Its all in the stretching technique. That applies for all skin types. If the skin is bouncing under the needle, the skin is nowhere near tight enough. Estending the needle has nothing to do with it, but if the throw isnt adjusted correctly that will affect your work.
