come on feddies have always been spying on hippies. the atlanta movement have several cops involved with them
I was once Space Keeping an area outside the HQ for a local WTF demonstration. Groups of activists sitting around taking a break before, during, after marching, Food Not Bombs feeding folk, etc. Suddenly, "That guys a cop. He is sooo a cop!!" Big hubbub. We calmed people down, found out that "that guy" claimed that he wasn't a cop. And we decided, "So what if he's a cop. If he's hungry, there's food." What secrets are being discussed? What executive sessions are being? What plans are made that can only be distributed to the public at the right time? (General assembly = public, right?) If the movement starts mirroring the "secrets to be kept from spies", "need to know", "vette everyone" attitude of the Man, the Man will win, because He has played that game longer and knows it better than the movement. If the movement is open and accessible to everyone, there will be police at meetings. Let them waste their time. (Heck, one school of thought holds that uniformed officers at planning sessions for actions reduces the chances of violence at the action without lessening their impact. cf. Diablo protests A surprised police squad is a scared police squad and scared folks are more inclined to violence.) If the movement is secretive, run by only those whom the leaders trust, then its the SOS, just with a different face. Agent provocateurs are the only serious threat that infiltrators pose. Turning a non-violent movement into a violent one. Everyone needs to remember "ignore alien instructions". Don't let people (inside the movement or outside) change your conviction about the boundary between right tactics and wrong tactics. (Wouldn't you be disappointed if you went to all that trouble to go out and protest and after it all, you didn't have an FBI file. I'd be disappointed. Personaly, I'd like to think my actions were important enough to warrant an FBI file. As a citizen, I'd wonder what kind of FBI are the taxpayers paying for if they don't keep files on innocent protesters. )
Thanks for reporting. I have covered the Occupy movement and they seem to be struggling with these infiltrations. I have joined this forum to learn and meet people in the hippie/marijuana/alternative movement but would not mind chatting about Occupy too. Stacey K
Righteous but don't work. Here is what I saw and know about Diablo: I participated in the so-called 'blockade'. I first got word by a hand sheet passed out at a Dead show. Arrived Obispo with a friend the weekend of the primary action. Abalone Alliance was mostly the focus for their role in organizing the demonstration. Wavy Gravy, Martin Sheen, Jackson Browne, ect. gave the press attractive replies to their questions. But it was the largest protest on the west coast. Good. Hippies gonna shut down the nuclear plant? The big a-do (we did not want Fukishima even back then). This should be great right? Wrong. Here is what happened: In joining the protest my bud and I were instructed that it was to be a "non-violent' demonstration. To take part in the blockade we are told we would first get some training (non-violent) and be assigned an 'affinity' group. OK, sounds right I think. Big action call for strategy and lots of organization. We spent a day practicing being arrested 'passively'. We would take turns being the cop and demonstrator. Also starting to take this thing seriously as a group leader keeps reminding us the lessons of Ghandi and King. Also reminding us about Chicago 69 and Attica. Can't pull out now I tell myself. I love the California coastline and that Pig G and E plant needs to go, (still does 35 years later). So what happened? Citizens of the world here it is and I still gag thinking about it. Picture this: Helmeted cops, CHP, Sheriffs, FBI, hired security goons outside the plant's front gate. A massive crowd (tons of deadheads I kid not) marching up hill on the road to that gate. We are all together banging drums, chanting, ringing bells and off to battle for mother nature. I have never felt better in my life walking towards my destiny at that time. ...as we arrive closer I think 'the moment of truth'. So what happened? What happened was the marching column, all on a two lane road leading to the plant, is held up. Were stopping? WTF? Oh, now we walk forward, stop again. Check this out: so nice and orderly the protesters go at 25 people at a time and cross a taped line on the road. There they get plastic cuffed and led to waiting LEO's buses. OH MAN! They even got the big square area taped off for protesters to be arrested in . The leaders on both sides are practically kissing each other for how well it's coming off. Hippy leader tears of joy watching all this non-violence---pig tears of gratitude his men did not just crack any heads open. F*&^ it, I turned around. I'll get busted.....but this was something else. All plea charges (violation citations) for trespassing were also pre planned and were dropped. Press made a big deal showing a bunch being detained behind a cyclone fance with one wire of barb at top. Nobody spent one night unless they were famous and had reservations with the pigs. Not enough room for everyone. The weeks of action had no reaction on PG and E. Occupy is different. No need to be in the cities. We are not like Diablo where it all went down as "AS PLANNED". Occupy does not work with the enemy....it works against it.
I wanna become apart of this movement but i don't know where to turn too I live in NYC and wanna revolt, peacefully. Much like African Americans peaceful protests were countered with horrific acts of violence. This is what's needed for all American eyes to open, peaceful people fighting for a cause, to stop the rich from keep on getting richer and the poor poorer, that the establishment is trying to destroy because they see them as threat.
The beauty of 'Occupy' is it's lack of definitive leaders and message. All people arrive to their 'truth' in their own way and own time. For me, what my 'truth is', and why I truly feel awakened and free is simply this: There is nothing I feel I need in order to be a citizen of value in this culture. Of course, this culture is all about consumerism, materialism, capitalism and wrapped up by those in power as democracy. I can only laugh at folks who bemoan the economy, who complain about rich people having things they do not have (I don't like any of that crap), who work so hard and get so little in return. These people are just playing the game they are putting down. Ownership (be it individual or collective) is still an illusion as what we have is only who we are. The reality of it. If you want to revolt, do it. Join an Occupy encampment. (Go Oakland for action, New York for something else). What does revolting really do? I say speak up, and speak out. Discuss your concerns with family, friends, a stranger at the bus stop. Call out people on their BS when you see it. Ask yourself if you truly 'Occupy' your own mind? ... and if you do.... BE ANONOMOUS
BE ANONYMOUS* lol Infiltrators are the norm in these types of movements. When occupy first started i was going to my local encampment for a small time. I met all the wrong people who were speaking the right message but going about it a really harmful way (Collection of kids trying to start a militia; avid users of drugs). I stepped out because i got the wrong impression from Occupy.. I ended up going back only to find out my local encampment had actually taken everything down in compliance with the State's demands. Now when i go downtown i see nothing but an empty park and not even the slightest resemblance/recognition of what used to be there. I think the fact that major cities still have Occupy encampments, stronger than ever, really shows that we have to separate ourselves from individual collectives. The more people that join together in a protest the better it is. As AP^ stated we really have to speak out, a lot of people don't really discuss these things because Occupy has been portrayed as a negative counter-culture full of homeless people and a "useless" generation of people who don't perpetuate the system/consumerism. Ask yourself: Why do i have a job? Why do i pay these bills? Why did i buy things i don't need in the first place? Speak up, talk to everyone you know about this. In due time talks like this will be widely accepted even by the most stubborn members of a capitalistic society. With every infiltrator there will be an addition of more supporters, they might try to create divisions in the group, but that's the beauty of Occupy. It's a melting pot of different views, we might not all agree on a particular subject but we hold the meaning of freedom and prosperity true in our hearts.
Occupy is just another thing to keep us distracted, Ive heard the disinfo agents have infiltrated and running the shit now... we all need to be at DC
There are some links in the stickies at the top of this section. Occupy Links http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=437928&f=633 Upcoming Occupy Action Days http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=446454&f=633
That's such a HUGE assumption, i know several people occupying union square in NYC who are actual supporters. Distraction? From what? The whole point of occupy is to make people see the flaws in this society. It only serves as a distraction for the people who don't feel like going out and protesting, so they watch and support causes from afar. That's like saying Anonymous is run by the government; who gives a shit. It's not who's running what, it's what YOU do under the circumstances we're living in.
They are at DC, there are many factions of Occupy. Each doing its own thing; imo they are bringing the needed exposure to problems in our government. Awakening a percentage of people What i suggest doing, at this point, is going to large scale protests around the country if you can. 2 upcoming events are the NATO protests in Chicago and the G8 summit in Camp David, Maryland. Both are supposed to bring in large numbers, join the cause, get in on the action.
i have mucho respect for those with hammers destroying bank property, but mostly everyone is just standing around being abused by the police state, just seems kind of ridiculous maybe we'll stand up for ourselves eventually if they start taking it to far.
The Occupy Movement is non-violent. Those wielding hammers and destroying property were infiltrators.
Thats protesting for ya..and it only does so much. You will always be pushed around by the big bully on the school yard. Things wont get better tell we physically act. True change will come when 'violence' what many call it, or whatever other word you choose, happens. The occupy can only go so far. The people we are up against are not going to simply put down their tricks of the trade by us holding signs.
