There is a certain amount of education that is important. I assume you would agree on that. Now if you dont want to be a professional or sit in an office all day and lead a boring mundane lifestyle its pointless to pursue it any further. I think that most people are brainwashed by society into getting an education, settling down, getting married, and starting a family. I dont believe any of that is necessary its all just pressure that we can chose to ignore. Therefore you should do whatever makes you happy.
Yes, I agree with that. But I feel as though all 12 years of your schooling isn't necessary. Just enough so you can gain common knowledge. But just because you can recite the material given, doesn't prove anything. It doesn't mean you're 'smart' or even that you can apply that knowledge.. This realization came to me when I noticed I've been passing all of my math classes..yet..I KNEW nothing. But nobody would know that, my grades sure didn't reflect it. But I did, and I wondered.. how in the world is this class supposed to help me? I'm clearly not learning anything beneficial to me, but I still seemed like a pretty smart student who knew what they were doing.
So education should be condinsed to the basics and then you should choose the other specifics. I know enough basic math to beable to get by in life...whats the point of being made to take calculas if you dont want to be an engineer. I can understand that. Being forced to take unneeded/uninterested classes can give you a bad taste for school in general. It makes a lot of what your having to dedicate yourself to and spend time on seem pointess....which can be very frusterating because no one likes to be made to waiste their time.
Hello all! Im new here aswell. Im glad that i have already found your post Hannah. I think somehow I understand what you are saying about education. The thing is, im right now graduating high school and i feel how all going on there is just suffocating me. You can't even write an essay in a way you want. They are killing all our creativity. Moreover I have my own interests and stuff i want to learn, but it's difficult to concentrate on things that I find interesting. For example when we are in history class and i wan't to write and learn a little bit more about life in 70s, no way, this is called irrelevant information if you are not writing or learning exatly those things that teacher asks you. I'm not going to even mention differencies between cramming and ability of analyzing, because the last one is not known in our schools.
The school systems really need to change the way they do things.. they continuously try to improve their schools but ironically they're just ruining them even more. Well, ruining the students that is. And I agree that they're taking away our creativity, they're also taking away our individuality with dress codes and such. I feel like what you wear to school shouldn't matter, it's not why we're there. There's bigger problems, they're making kids into robots.
