I was walking with my mom yesterday... I wasn't wearing my "full hippie regalia" but I had a t-shirt, shorts, sandals, and a headband on. A little boy, about 6 or 7 on a bicycle was about to pass us. He stopped me and asked me "are you a peace man?". Both me and my mom said yes, we are both "peace people". Before going on his way, the boy asked my mom if I was a REAL "peace man". Again, the answer was yes. I don't know, it was just a little thing that made me smile for the rest of the day. From the mouths of babes! :daisy:
There is the way the comment impresses us but there is also the way they are impressed to comment. I find hope in the way the questioner realizes the uniform doesn't necessarily define the man, "are you really a peace man", but beyond that we don't really know the quality of the stereotype the young person uses, that is, what the term peace man represents. We would like to imagine it is a depth of understanding but it is not necessarily.
^^ This. The so-called ''peace man'' could be something entirely different from what society sees it in its typical view. The child's parents could've be white supremacists or some violence enthusiasts teaching the child to turn to discrimination and hate(I'm obviously just giving an example). For all we know, the parents or some other influence could be putting thoughts of hate for "peace people" into this child's mind, completely changing the usual outlooks and views based on regular people. But, if it differs from one of my crazy theories, he could've simply seen a documentary on hippies on tv and taken his teachings after that. The world is full of different aspects to look from.
Iv'e Been Asked Many Times "Are You A Hippie", And It Is Always Peeps Of Asian Heritage Who Ask.... Never Been Hit With The "Peace Man" Question Yet.... Cheers Glen.
