Do you know the name of some famous hippies?

What kind of question is this??? We all do! I mean, there's nobody in the world who haven't heared about Timothy Leary, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison... I'm kinda confused...

 

I am new to this forum, and not familiar with the term hippies, so I tried to find out, sorry.

 

So what's a hippie? That's my question.

 

I wouldn't call Jim Morrison a hippie. JMO

I know a book that will help give you an idea about the culture. Its called hippies from A-Z by Skip Stone. I think this is an awesome book, it gives alot of interesting information.

Arlo Guthrie is a hippie

 

Sleeping Where I Fall by Peter Coyote is pretty good.

 

Dennis Hopper is a hippie and so is Peter Fonda, old hippies maybe, but hippies none the less Ram Das is beyond hippie but very much hip.. I don't know any young famous hippies.. Tim Leary was the first I think to really open up the hip scene..

Though his "hippiedom" is arguable, he is one of todays most well respected activists and is a very very famous political/philisophical writer, maybe you've read some of his books, Noam Chomsky.
