I personally think the government is fucked, to the point where I've made it a goal to leave the country permanently in the next 10 years. But I do agree with you. One thing I noticed after that Kony video went viral is that everyone seemed to agree that it should be the United States that does something. On Hipforums, in fact, the same people that I've seen passionately debate the need for the United States to mind its business in world affairs were passionately debating the need for the United States to send in military intervention. WTF? People can't have their cake and eat it too. Aside from the fact that the government is stripping away our constitutional rights and has been fucking up world affairs for decades, I think the US is pretty cool. It has great potential. All we need is a strong leader to end government corruption and to lead the world not through military power but through scientific and technological advancement. I love the land. I love the south and I love New England and I love the west coast. I haven't seen much of the middle of the country but I'm assuming its as beautiful as the rest.
Like the saying goes , I love my country, but I hate the government. Pretty much sums it up for me, unfortunately for me I'm a stubborn optimist who will go down trying to change the probably unchangeable.
i don't see where you get that. sounds like almost the exact opposite to me. ideology is NOT caring about real people. it is putting a lie ahead of doing so.
I've been living in this raggedy-ass country in Eastern Europe for almost 5 years now, and the crime is rampant here-theft and other categories of crimes are much higher than in the US-most of it goes unreported, however, because of stupid laws that give the reportees address to the crooks, and the basic apathy of the police. Statistics don't tell you everything. Many countries have extremely high crime rates but most of the crime goes unreported by the victims or the statistics aren't compiled or reported properly by the police. The thing about the US is that we air our dirty laundry to everyone, and every time there's a minor crime committed, or even suspected, someone picks up the phone and calls 911. And you think there's a problem with access to medical care in the US? Come where I am and see the state off this 'medical sysytem'. The access is 'free and universal' and that's on paper only. These people are in a lousy state of health because, simply, the system is worthless and nobody gives a damn about them
when retailing was mom and pop and infrastructure was unionized, america WAS in the top then percentile of more different things then any one place. ragun threw that out with the bath water. is there any place more free? probably, at least one or two. i don't KNOW that. what i DO know, is that those who equate thoughtlessness with freedom, are neither moral nor free.
Considering the fact that America is in the financial crisis as Asian economies are thriving like hell I think this thread is out of date by at leased two decades.
This is how I feel too. And I agree with you guys about how it people need to make up their mind about whether they want the US to mind it's own business or interfere.
