I met a girl - woman actually - but she's young enough to be my daughter - on a similar forum a couple years ago and it turns out we have a lot in common and only live 2 1/2 hours from each other so we got to meet in person. It was an instant connection and we keep in touch regularly.

Not everyone is who they say they are online, but then again, IT'S THE SAME IN REAL LIFE!

I have 6 good friends online from gaming, and ive talked to dozens over the years. We all talk on headsets while we play. Almost all of us know what each other looks like. We have an idea at times whats going on in each others life too when we hear background noise + the conversations we have. We are all ages 15 to 37. None of us have met one another off the internet in person. It would also be difficult because most of us are 700miles+ from each other. One of my gaming friends i have known for 7 years now. We sent a pic to each other awhile ago so we know what each other looks like. We have just always been buddies. As long as the internet exists we will remain friends. Maybe one day we will meet each other in person. Ya never know.

Exactly. I met my wife online-I'm not sure if that's a success story or not-life has its ups and downs, you know. I met a girl that I got to know online before I met my wife-that was a complete disaster.

You know, I totally forgot about one of my "internet" friends. I met her online over 10 years ago and we've kept in touch. When I think of her I feel like I know her in person, yet we've only spoken on the phone once I believe, maybe twice. Except for age, everything about us is very similar. She'd tell me something and I'd be like "me too", and I'd tell her something and it was the same for her. And with our conversations and participation in the same forum (not this one) we could see that we truly were alike - not just pretending to be by agreeing with each other.

Poppy Bob and Broony they are cool stories - I moved to my home town really due to 2 friends I met on care 2 and then real life... one moved to Newcastle a couple of years later the other moved back here last winter. I really wanted to come here and thought I didnt know anyone then it turns out once I moved here a few old friends were already here! I got some work at a festival from one of them a few years ago and became totally connected to another festival thru her- Living where I do is amazing although I do get the calling for some quiet times and countryside...

Dread I look forward to your story when you get off the phone :2thumbsup:

I've met some really wonderful people over the year's and still keep in close contact with most of them. I've even made a couple of new friends lately who I hope to stay in touch with for a long time. :)

I wouldn't say that I regret meeting one person offline... because if I hadn't then I would not have realised just how seedy he is. And I know for fact I won't be seeing him again.

As for changing my life... all of my friends online or offline have helped shape me in one way or the other. We all grow and learn every single day.

I've met people through a ole timey hot rod site. One guy drove 150 miles to help me fix my truck, we put it on his trailer and brought it to his house and worked on it for over 6 hours. I spent the night then got back on the road in the morning. He wouldn't take a dime for his time or gas. I've met a guy and a biker site in Belgium and someday I plan to visit.

I've only ever met one person offline that I first got to know online, and I don't think it's something that I would ever do again.

Having friends online is like a double edged sword for me, because whilst it is the only means I have of communicating with other people, I am constantly reminded of why I'm a hermit in my offline life...

I made a lot of friends over the internet when the web was new and exciting to me.

For some reason the excitemement of doing that has died down. Maybe it is because most of the people on the web tend to be Americans and I do not live there and will therefore never meet them in real life so I do not bother so much to get to know them.

At the same time my interests have changed so much that hardly a forum discusses things like intellectual topics deeply enaugh for me to actually want to be friends with someone because of being interested in it as well.
