I also thought about doing that when I was a kid. I would miss a lot of things, but it would be fun. I don't think I would want to live like that forever... maybe a year or two. You should read up on Dick Proenneke. He spent around 30 years more or less alone in a cabin up in Alaska.

There are no members. Just volunteers. You can become a full time volunteer which is basically a member. I emailed and they said come the 19th because they are starting a series of workshops. I don't plan on leaving if I like it.

 

So you could technically be a permanent volunteer?

 

Yep! That's my understanding. Ill kno more once im there though. So excited. Already growin my wilderness beard haha. Got my backpack packed. Greyhound ticket...im ready!

Just checked Omfield's site. It seems pretty much in line with many of my values. I'm definitely putting this place on my watch list. Maybe I'll visit when I return to the US.
