I really don't know much about the different genres of electronic type music. I really like Psyclon Nine, Dawn of Ashes, Jesus On Extasy and Dope Stars Inc. but I am not quite sure what specific genres those are or if they even quite fit in any electronic genres. My brother listens to more electronic stuff than I do and from what he listens to I like the more psychedelic sounding stuff.

So I was wondering if anyone knew what genres those fall under, and if anyone has suggestions of more bands/artists I might enjoy. I am kinda new to this type of music and would like to learn more about it. I know how annoyed I get when people try to get into metal and aren't even willing to learn what it is, what sort of subculture surrounds it and such since I'm really into metal. So I try to learn what I can about other genres I get into.

I dont think anyone could describe all the genres I've seen...I think some of them are made up on the spur of the moment.

My music falls into the avante-psychedub genre. I just decided, and made it up a few seconds ago - see how easy it is ?

[Avante-psychedub is not to be confused with avante-psychodub, incidentally. That's something quite different.

Personally, I think there's only three genres that really count for anything -

    I like.
    I dont like.
    I'm undecided.

Well that is true, but still it would be nice to have a point of reference so I don't have to keep telling people I like some electronic/techno type music because quite frankly I am afraid it makes me look like a total noob or something.

I know one thing is for sure I am not to fond of the super upbeat electronic music, more a fan of the darker stuff though I think the bands I listed more or less made that clear.

Just industrial or some sort of sub-type? and I would imagine Dawn of Ashes would be the same because they sound simular to psyclon nine. As for the others I am still clueless about their genres but I would guess they might be industrial as well, but a different type since they don't have harsh vocals like Psyclon Nine and Dawn of Ashes.

I think it might be possible to get a little too anal retentive about genres, sub-genres, sub-sub-genres...
