I'm not a Facebook user, but I did try it.

It's the ultimate mind fuck, IMO, at least the way I've seen people use it.

Users fuck with their own minds, unintentionally, and fuck with others' both on purpose and not.

A forum like this could be considered a form of social networking, but from what I've experienced, Facebook is more like ANTI-social networking.

    Anyone agree? Or disagree?

I'm a private person so something like Facebook is horrifying. People worry about a government invasion into privacy and worried about Bush's Patriot act. Yet, when given the choice, they freely sacrifice it on an alter to the internet gods. The government won't even have to mandate it by law. No worries, it's the future. It must be good.

Sorry, I'm off the Facebook grid. Don't look. You won't find me.

I don't like how people are being cataloged due to their usage. Unlimited access to unlimited amounts of data on literally EVERYBODY. It makes me feel extremely uncomfortable, and it's scarily reminiscent of 'Big Brother' from 1984. The C.I.A. has a share in Facebook, meaning that they can get information on ANYBODY with little to no effort. It's brilliant, but only for their causes, which are usually against the free-thinking mind. I deleted mine only a week ago, and I'm a lot less stressful and happier for it. Interesting topic to discuss.

i also hate the "post this in your status if you agree. *insert asinine political statement here.* 90% of people won't have the balls to post this."

    also meaningless song lyric statuses.

also "i have the bestest boyfriend/husband ever because he did something completely mundane that any boyfriend/husband would do! i love you so much schmoopy!"

that's all i can think of offhand.

    Yes! It's terrifying!

Also, another point; The youth of today are growing up with the notion that they are the focal point of every-bodies lives, hence their attitude towards people that are older and in turn more mature than they are. It takes away the aspect of self-discovery and replaces it with homo-discovery. They mimic the behaviors and social positions of their peers, in turn leading them to be self-involved bastards. I hate that we have to witness all of these children who haven't found themselves and probably never will.

Facebook is so damaging and unhealthy.

Agreed. I think the subtle shifts in culture over the last ten-twelve years have eluded people. Especially where Facebook is concerned. I'm just afraid we'll be feeling the repercussions for a while. One thing we've yet to learn by burnt fingers, is that not everything new is good.

    Both of those lol

I have a FB acct. But for me it's an open line with my daughter in Canada. If I didn't have it she wouldn't have found me.

I'm sure there are other who would say the same as well

I'm probably the only person out of all my friends that doesn't use facebook... I have an account, but rarely ever use it... i probably have 2-3 pics on there, whereas some people have around 1,000 its insane! I probably haven't updated my "status" in at least 3 or 4 months, and i only check it once every few weeks... i think its the biggest waste of time ever.

I'm considering on deleting it, the only reason i haven't yet is because its my only way to get in touch with friends that have moved away or if i need to contact somebody that i rarely talk to, its easy to do through facebook instead of having to find out their number or whatever.

You took the words right out of my brain! I am so with you about Facebook being unhealthy. People, ADULTS, are replacing face-to-face relationships, phone calls, short emails with Facebook posts. I'm so sick of hearing "but it's so much easier to keep in touch with people through Facebook". REALLY? Adults with 567 "friends"? I learned extremely fast who my friends really were when I left Facebook. It was convenient for them to "talk" to me when I had an account, and now that I don't, there are several that I haven't heard from at all - not even an email. No sweat off my back!

Facebook is the way the media reaches out and grabs hold. I'm not on it personally because I'm sure in the last 20-30 years I've pissed off some people and why give them a chance to find me to remind me of some shit? Also that de-friend business I'm not fond of!

    facebook is great.

    thanks to free will

we can all choose to use it as we see fit

so to complain about how it could be used

    it seems moot.

i feel if we need complain

at least of others and their usage

it perhaps says more about our choice of friends?

I hate facebook. I have one but have only ever used it because myspace died, and I like staying connected with my friends. I pretty much stopped using my facebook in December. Recently, I started using badoo and zoosk. Those are both cool sites. Badoo is better in my opinion. I'm getting older girls no problem now. :)

It’s the beginning of the transition don’t fool urself in thinking that it’s something that will blow over sometime soon it’s a crossroad in tradition so not all walks of life are compatible as of right now…One mind one nerves system there will come a day when the 3party will be obsolete and without a regulated body the information will not be processed and distributed with the means of manipulation for gains rather right now we are simply afraid to to share the truth that is I with the world a belief in rejection is our imagination and facebook it’s the fall of individuality when perfection is impossible acceptation is probable… hmm not sure if this even means something but I typed it out so I will posed it now:2thumbsup:

I made an account 3 years ago.
    I accumulated over 300 friends.
I deleted my account last week.
I've never felt better in my entire life.
