When I was prepubescent, my frenum was attached to the tip of my tongue making pronunciation difficult. When I began french kissing, my teeth wore the frenum back freeing the tip of my tongue and thereby solving the problem. I was able to say things I never could before.
I think it could be at least partly that for me as well. I've always been very withdrawn and shy, and never speak unless I'm spoken to. I've always been a loner too, and never had anything resembling a social life, so I guess it's only natural that on the rare ocassions when I do have to speak to someone, I find it very difficult to do. I can also get a bit long winded on these forums, which I think is largely to do with the fact that I have nobody to vent to in my offline life.
When I get really excited about something, I get really animated and I tend to stutter a little, but it's just because my brain is thinking faster than my mouth can move. This thread reminds me of a girl I work with that has a really cute lisp.
I took a medication for a year for medical cond I have and it makes it difficult to find the words sometimes even though I know what I mean to say......sortof medical alzheimer's.
I realized over the years speech has alot to do with confidence. I used to have no confidence so i mumbled...
I have a problem with volume. Apparently I have a very soft voice (I think people just don't listen hard enough)...I feel like I'm yelling if I speak any louder though...so I try to only talk if I really have something to say, just in case I have to repeat myself if they don't hear me the first time.
I'm Not Sure If It Would Be Classed As An Impediment, But I Frequently Speak With One Or More Feet In My Mouth.... Been Afflicted With It Since Birth.... Cheers Glen.
I don't have a speech impediment but now a days I often go blank in the middle of a sentence because the next word is just gone from my mind. I am also soft spoken so maybe nobody is listening anyway.
The Real Problem I Have Had All My Life, Is Remembering Peoples Names.... Unless I Write It Down, 10 Seconds Later, I Have No Idea What Your Name Was.... No Problem Remembering Any Other Details, Just Names.... Cheers Glen.
When I am introduced to people I instantly forget their names. It takes me meeting them a few times before I retain the name. I am sorry to the original poster for taking this off topic but I find it interesting when meeting people out walking my dog, we usually exchange the dog's names but can go years without knowing the person's name..... BTW I do usually remember the dog's names for the next meeting. Must be because I like animals better than I like most people.
Ha, I'm really bad about that. My neighbor and I hung out several times before I knew her name...it was really awkward trying to find out what she was called without coming right out and asking her.
