If the nazis invaded Britain

tbh, i think, compared to a lot of places, we'd probably get off lightly.

Hitler was always banging on about how he had a lot of respect for Britain. i reckon it would have gone one of two ways,

either, we'd fight to the last man (which is a nice thought, but might be somewhat over romanticised)

or, he'd have churchill killed, install lord halifax, and, after a period of military control with resistance groups and reprisals and a lot of people killed,by degrees, the germans would probably leave and they'd allow us the illusion of autonomy under a puppet government. life would go on pretty much as normal, except that obviously jews, homosexuals, communists etc, would slowly start to disappear over the channel, never to be seen again. horrible thought, really. America wouldn't be able to invade france, but i don't really know what would happen with the russians. would they make it to berlin with the entire german army on the eastern front? if they did, would they liberate the rest of europe? would britain become a satellite state? dunno really.

 

Uhm, I'm pretty sure IF the nazi's would have gotten in control over Britain they would never leave voluntarily. By the way, Hitler was full of shit.

by leaving, i don't mean that they'd relinquish control. i mean their presence would become less visible. its a lot easier to govern a country from behind the scenes and let people think they're ruling themselves than it is to use your military to control an entire rebellious population. especially when that army has other stuff to do (the second world war, for example.) this is the basic takeover model that Hitler used to take over Austria and Czechoslovakia pre-war. he later installed puppet governments in France (VIchy regime), Monaco, the independant state of croatia, Albania, the slovak people's republic in slovakia. also, government of national unity in hungary, bulgaria, romania, greece, serbia, montenegro, the lokot republic, belarus (belarusian central rada) and Norway. why should britain be any different?

Germany didnt have enough soldiers to maintain military control of all of these populations so they set up puppet governments. In Britain, they would have removed churchill and installed Lord Halifax, who was Pro-Nazi, to head up the puppet government of Britain. (and much as we like to imagine that us plucky brits would have never accepted foreign rule, there were more than enough people in positions of power who would have been more than happy to be on germany's side)

so the germans would have left. you wouldnt see nazi flags on every street corner and the waffen ss goosestepping around all over the shop, there'd be a new government who were under german control, but their visible presence would be significantly lessened. they'd rely on a secret police to keep order and get to work removing "undesirables" and educating the next generation of children to be fascists and informers. same as every other country they invaded.

yes Hitler was full of shit. however, compare his treatment of western European countries to Russian and eastern European ones. Britain would have gotten off lightly, relative to other occupied countries.

Its my understanding this has been introduced in areas of the UK and USA with plans to introduce it further. Given the debilitive effect of fluoride when imbibed it makes you wonder just who some governments are.....

 

There'd have been a civil uprising eventually, the empire would have been spread too thin eventually and as an outlying territory on an isolated island we'd have taken the country back.

 

I repeat what my Grandma said : We Brits would simply not have tolerted Nazi rule.There would have been massive dissent and they wouldn't have been able to send over enough soldiers to control us.It would have been knives out and massive resistance.Hitler was a sad little fuck,by the way,with a massive inferiority complex.Unfortunately there is still a kind of fascism at work today - you only have too look around you to see it at work.

 

i certainly don't mean to insult your grandmother, especially as i too have/had elderly relatives who expressed the same sentiments.

however, i can't help but think that every other country that The NAZI's took over successfully probably had the same ideals.

if you worry about a rebellious population,don't give them a clear enemy to define themselves against, blur the boundaries, work behind the scenes to have your ideology instilled in the population gradually. let them think that they HAVEN'T been taken over, but are really governing themselves. Use propaganda to devalue previously held beliefs ("churchill told you to fight us on the beaches? look at all this shit he was doing before yaddayaddayadda") take advantage of the vast majority who value self-interest and the protection of their families over idealism. turn them on the idealists through the use of reprisals. most people just want to survive. most people are willing, when push comes to shove, to look the other way or convince themselves that something is someone else's problem, if not doing so puts them or their loved ones in danger. this is the mentality which allows genocides and gross social injustices. its a depressing thought, but its always been the case, and it has repeatedly been exploited throughout history. Apathy will doom us all.

 

the nazi's would probably try again to employ the help of the mexican's so they could have america's attention drawn to them and the japaneese. we probably would have lost too, from there Hitler would make his conquest of north america for oil just as he tried for the middle east and you brits couldn't hold Rommel off lol. after that south america also for oil too. but assuming he did what he did the Soviets, he japan and mexico would duke it out.
