I'm not a hater but it sounds overproduced to me. Cheesy as well but that's more common than an exception in the power metal genre and not bad when pulled of well at all (in this metal subgenre at least). Perhaps the worst in my opinion is that they play well but this is just an unremarkable song. The guitar from about 3:10 is the only fun part for me.
i'm confused... if Dragonforce are this generations Spinal Tap (being deliberately satrical) then that was worth a chuckle :mickey: if they aren't, then that made Nickelback look like fookin' groundbreaking artists and they should be forced to watch This is Spinal Tap a la Alex Delarge and the Beethoven incident
I rather listen to this than Nickleback any day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZvpvz6IdAU"]DragonForce - Valley Of The Damned [WITH LYRICS] - YouTube Edit: thought I'd add the demo version as well, which is not so utterly finetuned and has a much more pleasant sound in my opinion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTMhD-1_n3U"]Valley of the Damned - DragonHeart (DragonForce Demo - 2000) - YouTube
Most all metal is cheesy; but there is just a certain amount that is too much (some whole subgenres would probably be included, not to single out Dragonforce) That being said, despite my dislike for them overall, and my inability to take them seriously, or respect them; I have a couple of their songs. But I don't like this one, and won't bother checking out the new album. I might be with Asmodean on the Nickelback thing.
true its typical but this new singer adds a nice balance to their sound and not typical power metal vocals like ZP..... the lyrics are generic but what metal genre isnt generic at times? only progressive metal has the best non generic lyrics usually opeth dream theater porcupine tree
another thing that I liked about this new song was the fact that the main guitar riff was rocking and not SUPER FAST speed metal that they are know for.....you guys got to give them that at least compared to previous album singles....
It's not at times; Dragonforce, like Nickelback, Lil Wayne, or Taylor Swift just have no range. It's not just the lyrics, their whole sound, their composition style; they just don't bring anything original or outstanding. The guitar is their best feature; but it is not showcased well enough and even there, they always sound so similar. Although, the part at 3:00 might be one of their best ever -- the song overall is just bland. I must admit I'm considering downloading it and just cutting out them solos.
I used to dislike Dragonforce for bordering on self-parody, but now I actually think it's necessary in power metal - it's part of the heroism of the music's subject matter to not care what anyone else thinks, so it pays off to not 'tone it down' just because it may come across as cheesy.
Before seeing Dragonforce live I used to have a couple of their songs on my playlist. Gave the song a chance, sounds like filler to me... If Dragonforce played everything in a 6/8 time signature with epic riffs and soaring vocals I'd listen to them. On a side note, I've gone into an "epic metal" phase... Lots of Blind Guardian.
I'd kind of given up on Dragonforce a while back. The song you linked is pretty sweet, though. But I think they've lost some of their pizazz. All opinion, mind you.
