I had recently got a copy of Oct 1986 HIGH TIMES and IMO the cover is a work of art that rivals the Mona Lisa so I wanted to frame it and put it on my wall but no ordinary frame would do, so I decided to make up one with my fledgling spray paint skillz. And just as I was deciding what kind of frame to use I find this old busted ass frame in a dumpster that was the perfect size that just needed a little tripping up. So I got a can of Montana deep purple spray paint (I used Montana brand spray paint for most of my projects these days because A) it comes in a million different shades so you can always find just the right color you want B ) It is thick and heavy so it coats well but it cost $7 a can so it can get pricey if you are using a lot of colors) Montana is so thick and heavy that it only took one coat to completely cover the black paint underneath and came out with a beautiful smooth finish (I was going to sand the frame to make it smooth but decided to just leave it all banged up for a rustic look) Then I went to town on the frame with a honey comb stencil with Krylon grass green spray paint followed by Krylon lavender using paper doilies I found at an arts and craft store to give it some trippy patterns and texture. Once that dried I turned the honey comb stencil 90 degrees and went to town with some neon blue and followed that with some neon hot pink patterns using the paper doilies again. And lastly I used some pieces of scrap metal coiling that I found in a dumpster outside a metal shop as a stencil for the matting inside the frame around the magazine (I used some sky blue as the base and touched it up with some Montana malory purple. Whatcha think?
