no rules except peace and love. it doesnt matter if your hair is long or if you dont bathe. its optomism and a sense of what is right (not just what is accepted as right) kinda cheesy but hey!
high, im new on this forum. ill just say im a teen because i dont know what rules are for kids and drugs. i want to know how is it possible for there to ever be true peace, shure we all like to listen to lennons ''imagine'' witch is an outline of his idea of a utopia, buts thats just the point, a utopia can never exist, everyone will allways have a diffrent idea of a perfect place. of coarse we all want to break from government but without a government there will be killers and chaos, its the dark side of hippydom noone wants to realize. i go to high school and try to learn so if im a stoner, at least im not an ignorrant one, but anyway, how do i distinguish usefull information with propeganda, how do i truly ''break on threw''. how will i know when i have? i wish morrison was still around to help open the doors in my mind, but maybe an experienced hiipy can help me, im shure theres more to hippydom than ''peace and love''. please i would appreciate any help.
Being a hippie has a lot to do with starting your own flea circus and an incredible amount to do with pasting little pieces of construction paper on the flea's backs. Being a hippie relies a lot on your decision to become a writer, and on the realization that you're just going to keep on plaigarizing Richard Brautigan, really. Being a hippie is equal parts yelling "WHERE IN THE HELL AM I? I CAN'T SEE TO OPEN THIS BOTTLE! WHO TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS? FUCK THIS MOTEL! I HAVE TO TAKE A PISS! WHERE'S MY KEY?" and shuffling your feet in leaves, whispering "Rattabunchrattabunchrattabunch..." In short, it's difficult to really explain what a hippie is without several term papers worth of counterculture spiel and a ton of zen poems (or maybe- no zen poems at all) and five black and white pictures of Jerry Rubin. Think about the unthinkable, accept the unacceptable, believe the incredible, describe the undescribable... then forget it all, get enlightened, and get drunk with the butchers singing "I fought the dharma and the dharma won!"
haha i love this thread, that last post cracks me up! anyways.. being a hippie.. like everyone else is also saying.. isnt just flowers, peacesigns, and long hair or tyedie. that stuff is apart of it but i think its more about being yourself. not caring what others think. you try to help others, you like being around people and making them happy. thats what i think. im only 16 and am new to this forum but ive read quite abit on the subject of what a hippie really is. hope my POV helped. love always, christine marie PEACE
I think the biggest thing is to do no harm. Be as conscious as you can, to avoid hurting yourself and others. Other than that, just be.
That is just absurd. Rules to be a hippie. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Its more about the way you think than anything.
cool, thanks wiki! =] "Hippies sought to free themselves from societal restrictions, choose their own way, and find new meaning in life. One expression of hippie independence from societal norms was found in their standard of dress and grooming, which made hippies instantly recognizable to one another, and served as a visual symbol of their respect for individual rights. Through their appearance, hippies declared their willingness to question authority, and distanced themselves from the "straight" and "square" (i.e., conformist) segments of society.[78] Personality traits and values hippies tend to be associated with are "altruism and mysticism, honesty, joy and nonviolence".[79] At the same time, many thoughtful hippies distanced themselves from the very idea that the way a person dresses could be a reliable signal of who he was, especially after outright criminals, like Charles Manson, began to adopt superficial hippie characteristics, and also after plainclothes policemen started to "dress like hippies" in order to divide and conquer legitimate members of the counter-culture. Frank Zappa admonished his audience that "we all wear a uniform": the San Francisco clown/hippie Wavy Gravy said in 1987 that he could still see fellow-feeling in the eyes of Market Street businessmen who had dressed conventionally to survive."
Treat our planet, it's resources, and every living thing with respect. What goes around comes around. Commit a random act of kindness. Collect some good karma. Do what you think is right. :sunny:
The reality is that no matter what you define yourself as or become defined as that you need to think for yourself. I think most hippies have tendencies to experience harmonies with other human beings or harmonies with existence at one time or at another... don't let it turn you into the cynical hermit that I've become, however... Like I said, if you want a crash course, go live outside for a winter... or, at least, go there in your imagination.. =-) P.S.
