Softsole Shoes

I'm looking for something that would let my feet feel the earth while providing a bit of protection. I've heard moccasins are good for that, what are you guy's experience with them? I'm just not sure where I'd be able to find some non-fashion moccasins, thinking about maybe making my own.

Vibrams/FiveFingers/any of those silly "barefoot shoes." If you want to BE barefoot but LOOK shod, try barefoot sandals (totally bare sole and some ties over your feet for the sake of appearance).
