janis joplin, joan jett, stevie nicks, and dalores o'riordian (i think i may have spelled that wrong...oh well)
grace slick, but i must mention kayrn crisis and the band Mythic (all female death/doom metal), that was some abrasive stuff from women.
huh.. Neko Case, Kim Deal and Kate Bush only got 1 vote each. And I don't think Linda Thompson or Sarah McLaughlin got a mention. Oh yeah, hot rock chicks... no one likes Meg White??
Janis is my #1 girl. I also like Grace Slick. Gwen is very pretty...I also like rockabilly singer Wanda Jackson and Susan Tedeschi. Susan is very much like Janis in her singing. Bonnie Raitt, Deborah Harry, Sheryl Crow and The Wilson Sisters are also good...
Lets hear it for Melissa Etheridge! Where are all her fans here? Nice to see people appreciate the greats of the past, like Janis Joplin and Grace Slick. And would add Melanie and Janis Ian. Not sure you'd call her rock, she's hard to categorize-Cris Williamson, one of the greats of the wonderful "womyn's music " that arrived in the 70s as part of the feminist and gay/lesbian movements. Of course if I had to pick only one female singer(thank Goddess I don't) it would be Joan Baez, still going strong after 50 years. Check out her How Sweet the Sound DVD for the story of her life and music.
