I've been feeling like crap for the past week, perpetual one-sided headache and stuffed up nose. It appears to be getting worse, and I'm fairly certain it's a sinus infection. My parents have decided to drag me off to the doctor by Wednesday if it doesn't clear up, and I have some irrational fear and hatred of doctors (long story...) So anyways: Is there any way I can clear it up on my own, naturally, and then go about my merry way? Thank you guys! :)

Well if its from allergies, ive heard natural honey or bee pollen works tremendously well.

Neti pots worry me a bit, after the news of deaths from them not so long ago... haha. I think all you have to do is make sure they're sterile, though. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

It started out as some nasty little bug from the kids I was watching overnight last Saturday and went from there, I think. I haven't ever had too much of a problem with seasonal allergies.

put eucalyptus oil or 1 tbsp of Mentholatum in steaming water.
over your head with a towel and inhale all the steam.
Then, blow your nose to clear it up.
You can also replace eucalyptus oil with fresh eucalyptus leaves, mint or thyme.

    or

Add 3 to 4 drops of Tea Tree Oil to 1 cup of boiling water.
Inhale the vapours for 5 to 10 minutes.

My favorite is a nasal spray that I make: One half cup distilled water, 1/8 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon finely ground myrrh resin, and a tiny dash of ground cayenne. Heat the mixture to a simmer but do not boil, and hold there for about ten minutes, stirring often, the cool and bottle in a nasal spray bottle. Put the remainder in a tightly sealed jar in the refrigerator. Shake the spray bottle well before using, as the myrrh will settle out of suspension. Use as any other nasal spray, a shot or two in each nostril, every two to three hours.

It almost always works, and faster than any prescribed antibiotic can.

I've given up on going to docs for sinus infections. I have one now. Antibiotics have never helped.

    I simply use:
    • vaporizer
    • generic Benadryl (sinus/allergy OTC meds don't work for me)
    • saline spray (until I get a neti pot)

they didnt die from the neti pot. They died because of dirty water.

This seems to work best when I go hard-core with the Benadryl and dry those suckers out (sinuses). Just make sure to drink plenty of water if you use the max dose for a few days straight!

Did I mention that besides antibiotics, other OTC sinus and allergy meds never helped me get better or help my symptoms?

I'm a neti pot fan. I swear, my sinus infections and colds disappear in half the time since I've been doing this.

I saw this on House, M.D. of all places. They said tap water could deliver amoebas to your brain.

A day or so later, my daughter told me she didn't feel like boiling the water and just ran warm tap water.

there is something really wrong with the amoeba story. If that was the case.. Dont you think 1000's of swimmers would die every year after getting water in their noses?

I've had a sinus infection for a few weeks. Last Friday I ended up going to the dentist because even though I thought my infection was getting better (using natural methods), some of my teeth still hurt on one side every time I chewed. He was pissed that I hadn't been to the family doc to get antibiotics to clear up the sinus infection and after xray said I had a tooth/gum infection as well. The pulp of one tooth is very close to my sinuses - it looked huge on the xray. So this is day 7 of 10 days of antibiotics and I'm not any better than I was as far as the tooth pain is concerned, and I obviously STILL have a sinus infection. I'm going to call him back on Monday if I still have this pain. I don't know how to cure an infection in my gums naturally. :(

I had a severe sinus infection a few days ago. I used a neti pot a few times and it cleared up in two days. I've always had sinus problems so neti pots are a miracle cure to me.

just use distilled or boiled water.

Just make sure you read that as BOILED water and not BOILING water... ;) makes a difference.
