I have heard that Christopher Tolkein has the rights to the Hobbit, unlike LOTR which is held by the publisher and that he is not going to sell them to anyone.
im gonna back you up on i, robot. although i didnt think the film was THAT bad, compared to the book it was a peice of crap
robert a heinlein's novel _starship troopers_ was quite good (if you like heinlein, heh...) the "movie version" was just a travesty, imho...
Yeah I saw the movie before I read the book, and even then the movie wasnt very good. They changed some many things, probly like 75% of the movie was made up...
Huckleberry Finn! I have yet to see a film version that brings to life the spirit of both place and character that is so real in the book. The move is dark an grim, because the setting of the story is dark and grim. The last version of 1984 had John Hurt and Richard Burton in his final appearance. The old version had Edmond O'brien, I think. I like Heinlein, because he has an interesting neo-Nietzschean, social Darwinist philosophy. Even though the movie 'Starship Troopers' had little to do with the book, I still liked the movie, because the film makers were able to parody the Fox News mentality of Heinlein's blind hyper-aggression. Except for the important scenes with the desert people (Frenans(sp), I prefered the mini-series to the book 'Dune'. I especially liked the 'Children of Dune' mini-series. I even liked the old movie 'Dune'.
I have watched the film and read the book... i just thought if this is what good film makers make of the book..then the book is not realy that good.. The film might have been simplified maybe ... if not 1984 is totaly overrated
being a stephen king fanatic,I'll have to say"hearts in atlantis"I thought with Anthony Hopkins doing a lead role,it would be good.it was, except they left out 2/3 of the freakin book!they even excluded the part that tells where the name of the book came from!they put like the first 2 or 3 chapters on film, then called it quits..very dissapointing,to say the least!
Queen of the Damned..hands down. I was pissed 5 mins in. Not even Alliha(however you spell her name) could save it.
How Green Was My Valley. If you had not read the book, it would make no sence why Hew was packing his suitcase at the beginning of the movie. The BBC mini series that was made in the 1970's did an ok job.
I could think of a million I'm sure, but the one that really comes to mind is Great Expectations...it's a pretty movie I suppose, but they just sucked out all the meaning of the book and spit out a rather crappy love story...which the book was not!
That film was on TV last night... i have seen other adaptions (you are talking about the ethan hawk and gwyneth paltrow effort ?)...and that one just was dreadful. I had no idea what the hell they were trying to say/achieve with the film ?? only watchable for gwyneth stripping Those pictures were bloody awful though ... probably a little dated now ?.
Catch-22...the movie fucking sucked and left out half the book and attempted to go in chronological order Holly
Holp, Richard Burton was in '1984'. He's the guy that married Liz Taylor about 20 times. For me the movie version of Hannibal was attrocious and nothing like the book. I didn't think much of Red Dragon, either. Anthony Hopkins looked as if he was bored in all his scenes. Manhunter was a far superior original.
I agree, the movie was terrible, a big disappointment after having read so many of the books. I found the LOTR trilogy to be excellent, better than what I imagined when I read the books. Sure, there are some legitimate criticisms of the films, but overall it is a great adaptation.
i highly suggest both of these. hitchhikers guide to the galaxy (horrible movie dr. who style british humor) and brave new world. classics. excellent books and B- movies. of course the animated hobbit and lord of the rings is truly irritating and entertaining, perfect for the insomniac though cus they do put you to sleep.
