Your consciousness is in this Universe. That's all you can say as far as a premise, in fact even that is making some pretty big assumptions. Home is a concept in a human mind and in order to apply it to more absolute realities, such as life and death (which are, admittedly, also mere concepts, but at a less removed level of abstraction), you have to go through several translations for it to be even sensible, much less correct. Another way to think of it: Home is a value judgment about something: belonging, security, being at rest, or some other qualifying factors of home-ness. Life and death would appear to refer to biological realities, at least as far as the common use of those terms is concerned. It's hard to see how the one could describe the other. That said, I basically agree with what I think you were saying, haha...
