Okay, this is a tough one. Or maybe you think it's a no-brainer. Which band do you think is the real Van Halen? Purists have always known that David Lee Roth is the face of Van Halen, and Eddie Van Halen's guitar is its trademark sound. But live, this band can't perform its greatest hits from the Sammy Hagar years, because David Lee Roth can't hit the high notes. As for Chickenfoot, they have no hits, and Sammy Hagar almost sounds like David Lee Roth, and their new lead guitar player almost sounds like Eddie Van Halen, but when original VH bass player Michael Anthony joins in on harmony vocals, my subconscious brain instantly starts screaming to me, "That's Van Halen!!!" :willy_nilly:
5150 is one of my all time favourite albums. What, whats that....rack of what?, well I'll have some of THHAAAAATTTT! Dont get me wrong, liked them with Roth, but then Hagar came along and that album kicked ass. But that was 1986, later that year Reign in Blood came out. Metal changed forever and in comparison Van Halen sounded like listening to Abba
I've always preferred Van Hagar over Van Halen so Chickenfoot with Hagar and Anthony get my vote. VH has gotten just to old and fat for me. There originality is gone.
not a fan of either... but 'chickenfoot' was on 'aqua teen hunger force' one time, so i'll go with them.
